1480 Fan and Rotor Adjusting motor numbers and interchange

I need help getting the correct adjusting  motor the fan on my 1480.  The one I  got is like @HydroTek listed in a previous thread but it dose not fit. 

The CNH parts website substitutions are confusing on this part.  It shows it to be compatible but it's not.  The bolt pattern is different.  The mounting/gear spacing is different.  The wiring connector is different.   

The original part number is 126573C1 and looks like this 

The substation is  84409160 (used on 2188 and similar combines) and looks like this.

The differences are obvious.  The only way this will work is with an adapter mounting bracket and wiring adapter.  Not plug and play at all.

I'm hoping one of y'all might be able to help!

I either need the fan adjuster working or a way to convert it back to the manual adjustment.  It's really a pain trying to adjust the fan with the motor not working...

That’s what I got on my 1460.  Purchased from eBay.  My issue was after installing the wiring / switch was bad in the cab.  The description had this info:

All States Part #: 156304, 499389
AMI Part #: AM126573C1
WAI Part #: SM8090
Replaces Case IH Part #: 126573C1, 111787A2, 86515795, 84409160
Replaces John Deere Part #: AH124567, AH143903
Replaces New Holland Part #: COT30-0064

The one I received is WAI SM8091.

That explains it. They sent the wrong part. But it is the one for the newer combines (2288, 2388, etc) listed in the substitution at CNH.

Here lately it seems either they send me the wrong part or it gets lost in shipping all the time. Not so much the dealer as online.

Too many times the dealer just can't get me the combine parts I need because of contract violation...

I know for sure that when replacing some of those Deere #’s on some combines that were posted as compatible you have to replace the support that the motor is mounted to. I haven’t done one for a while, but Deere used to sell a kit that had a new motor, new aluminum mount and an adapter wiring harness. The old style motor was not available for them. The last time I did that was on a 9600 and a lot of parts had to be changed to install the new motor.

Ohhh boy. Let me dust off the cobwebs in my mind and see if I remember all of this correctly. Someone else can chime in if I'm not correct.

The original motor was retired by CaseIH back in the 1688 production run IIRC. The new motor needed a different wiring harness because the new motor grounded back through the switch in the cab IIRC. The original motor grounded through the motor through the chassis. 

Most guys around here just went to an auto parts store and got a power window motor for a late 1970s-early 1980s square-body Chevy/GMC pickup when they needed a fan/rotor speed adjusting motor IIRC.

Sorry if I'm not 100% on this...it's been a few years and beers ago since I went through all of this.

Dealer says anything that looks  like it will fit appears to be NLA except a few in some dealers inventory. Recommend aftermarket, Abilene,  etc (they are practical and helpful). 

Checked around the interweb and several places have them. Ordered one from Abilene because I expect they are most likely to get it right and are two days away shipping UPS.

I'll look harder into the GM power window motor too.

Yup, that is just a window motor 

I have a couple laying around here that I keep as spares for the belt engage on my band mill

Just an aside. Thought mine was junk on my 1460 OldIH mechanic I know sprayed the shaft with k b blaster told me hit the button and he took a wrench and started turning and it broke free.He told me to spray it couple times a year and run it all the way in and out helps with the corrosion.

I checked and my shaft is free.  Thanks for the suggestion and everything y'all.

Digging around I found this on the New Holland side.  An adapter for converting it to the new style motor.  At over $400, I'll try to keep using the old style.  Does come with the motor and wiring.  86515795

Searching the GMC pickup route, it appears that a 1981 GMC Left power window motor is the same.  

Pricing is similar to the combine motor but the pickup motors often do not come with the gear.

The first one I ordered had the same pics and part number but came in wrong...

Got the one in from Abiline Machine today.  Almost twice the price but it's the correct one and it works.  I had to file a bolt hole a little to get it to fit but once it was on it's working great.

The idiots on fleabay I bought the wrong motor from insist it will fit.  Obviously they did not look at the pictures.  Probably just a computer program and nobody ever even looked at my pics.

I will send it back.

BTW the numbers posted by @TeachersPet1066 are correct.  Even the ones on the CNH website are marked made in china.  WAI is probably making all of them (but possibly to different quality standards).  The number on the correct one I received from Abilene Machine was WAI SM8090.
