acem Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Just bought an old NECO grain auger and have to pick it up pretty quick to start rice harvest. Was looking at our options on repairing the ones we have and wife suggested I look online. Bought it on auctiontime for a little of nothing... It's the kind where the gearbox is in the auger tube and the grain flows around it. Never been around one like this before anything I need to know about that type? here's a pic I snagged online from a brochure. Quote
Dirt_Floor_Poor Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 I’ve seen a few NECO augers, but none of them had that gearbox like that. Quote
farmer john 8910 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 I have a couple of them and they work fine. Not sure what’s inside that makes the grain flow around the gearbox though Quote

jass1660 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Had a 10” mayrath with gear box internal never an issue. Quote
bitty Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 There was a Mayrath junk auger on the farm here when we got the place 35 years ago. It was full of wasps when we towed it in from the fence row to scrap it Quote
nepoweshiekfarmalls Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 Slightly off topic, but still auger related. My Grandfather purchased a new Westgo brand auger when he built the first modern corn bin with dryer. It is a green tube with red undercarriage. What made it unique was the fact that the flighting was suspended from carrier bearings in the tube. Most augers, the lighting runs directly on the floor until the grain raises them up during movement. If a bolt broke between auger sections, it was a pain to pull the auger out. Mostly, that auger was trouble free over the years. 1 Quote
