That looks awesome! I did quite a bit of model making when i was a kid. Still have a few kits and all the gear lying around. Like with so many others on here, I just don't have the time currently but have that secret urge when i see a post like this one. In reality it will sit there until I retire, then maybe they'll all come out again.

Will definitely have to keep an eye out for that Scout kit though. that is cool. You did a top job with it Sledgehammer.

Not yet. They are water transfer and I haven’t had a lot of time inside. With the little guy I cant keep anything small (or large) out if I value it at all. ?

I did get most of them cut out but have not applied any yet. I even found some of the same decals from that desert racer pic. The gold and black decals came on the sheet. I have valvoline decals like the ones under the front marker light. Champion decals like the ones over the rear tires. KC decals similar to the ones behind the door opening.

Looks great! How much was that model? I found one at a Hobby Lobby for $30 but I didn’t buy it

It was $25. A lot more than they cost when I was a kid.

Hobby lobby is the only place I have seen them. I’ve wondered if I should have bought it but Im not sure how it would turn out since I haven’t done a model like that before

Give it a try. I had not built a model since the early to mid 1990’s. I think this one looks fine but I’m not going to buy more and start a new hobby.  Too many other hobbies for me

So after reading through this thread and seeing the detail of the engine and dash on your Scout, I may just do some painting myself.  Now I am not sure the route I want to go.  Another trip to the model store may be in order for paint.  Out of curiosity what paint do you use?  When I was a kid I always used Testor's model paint.

Yea maybe I could try it some time. It would be cool to do an IH cabover. If I try it it would probably be in the summertime when I would have more time to work on a model

It was Testors. I bought the primer and paint. They make a base/clear but I didn’t mess with that. The dash was all by hand with a brush and a basic color Testors kit with the same little glass jars from 20 years ago. (New ones)

Thanks guys.  Actually we have a Micheals craft store about 4 miles from home and they sell Testors paints.  I could really get into this again given the opportunity.  Sitting here thinking of the models I had back in the day.

Testors kit #584 SR71 Blackbird- This model is gone, not sure what became of it.

Testors kit #594 C-130 E/H Hercules-   This kit is still at mom and dads unfinished but has missing and broken pieces unfortunately

Revell kit #7245 37 Ford convertible with trailer-  This kit was finished in my mother in laws cellar while my wife worked on a doll house whiie we were still dating.  Then it was left in the box for the past 25 years.  I know it has some damage and attention needs given to it.

Should I dig them out too eventually? Hmmmmmmm..................

I think my childhood models are in a box in the attic at Mom/Dads. They have probably melted in the heat. I know I had a 32 Ford, 72 Monte Carlo with a blower I added, Ford Thunderbolt, CJ7, Custom CJ7 with a 454 and military axles, a “Mad Mudder” Chevy truck, and several more unfinished. I liked the 4x4 models the best.
