sd186man Posted August 29 Posted August 29 7140 we acquired last year has been in the family 25 years, led front and rear flashers resulting from a hailstorm insurance repair. I’m sure they never worked, and I am stumped trying to get them working. Nothing would happen with hazard switch, turn signal either way would light three but no flashing. Fuse is good, so far I have replaced both the flasher and light switch and wired in a resistor at each of the four lights, and cleaned the ground cable under the right front cab, now hazard switch is still dead, turn signal either way flashes the left rear, left front is steady, I’m out of ideas, don’t see any wiring hacked up anywhere, any help will greatly appreciated Quote

If so that's the flasher module, easiest thing to do is find wiring diagram and start sending 12V through each wire to verify all wiring to flashers is good. If wiring checks out good you're back to a bad flasher box. Also I'd get rid of those resistors, just more load in the circuit when the goal of LED lights is less load. 1 Quote
TB5288 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I installed LED flashes on 8950 without resistors and they work fine. The resistor was intended to provide an additional load so the flasher trips. There's enough load on the system without the resistor to trip the flasher. I'm not saying the the resistor is your problem but take them out. Sounds like you need a wiring diagram. Quote

HydroTek Posted August 30 Posted August 30 That flasher unit does not need resistors 2 power sources to the flasher unit -- one constant -- "center" terminal -- one from the headlight switch , first position -- outlying terminal -- dash indicator terminals are near the center power terminal -- turn lights are the outer terminals If you get one light steady when you choose a direction -- then you have the constant power source working -- that steady light is from the mechanical selector switch in the unit -- should also work the other direction LED bulbs are polarity specific -- need to check the socket with a meter Check the voltages at the unit plug with a test light -- you can also hot wire the lights without the unit to check the wiring -- go from the center terminal in the connector to the terminals near and see the lights work Quote
TroyDairy Posted August 30 Posted August 30 HydroTek is right. Check the wires up top. Make sure wire correct polarity. BUT, I kind of think you may have bad LED lights. Most are not exactly top tier quality. After only a season or 2 the LED flashers on my 8930 show burnt out diodes and 1 is totally DOA. They were from one of the 'respected' brands, not ebay cheapies. Clip test light in each corner and see what happens before you pull anymore hair out chasing. LED are nice and bright and in theory should last a long time but the quality is such a crap shoot. If they are good they are great and bad is pure garbage. Quote

However, I recently bought some that were not. Made me wonder if something had changed with them. Quote

Diodes are one way, that is not gonna change -- but there are driver circuits used that control the power draw on the diodes these days -- since automotive (tractor) battery power varies quite a bit thru the voltage range -- diodes are voltage specific 11-16 volts will not do for a diode The driver circuit allows the LED light to work at various voltage inputs and still have the same output -- also this allows pulsing of the diode to extend the life when over driving with power So in a nut shell -- pulsed power is better than constant in several ways Quote

Several issues, couple connectors were broken so the terminal was pushed back and not making connection, leds all work but polarity was backwards on one. What I called resistors are actually an inline flasher at each bulb, it works so I’m leaving them in for now. All four lights flash when the turn signal is turned either way or light switch is in hazard position. Thanks to everyone for the help 1 Quote

Thanks to everyone for the help I'm guessing the lights all flash in turn signal mode because one side is supposed to be on steady when turn signal is activated. Pull that flasher thing out and I bet the turn signals work correctly. 2 Quote
