756puller Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Guy called me up to come look at his payloader engine that's getting coolant in the oil pan. What are some of the places the coolant can get into the oil pan on a d-282 engine? Quote
snoshoe Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Other than a cracked casting. I think you're pretty much limited to a head gasket or oil cooler. Quote
756puller Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Alright, I was kinda figuring get a used motor, rebuild and swap them. But I'm starting to think that I might as well tear down the current engine in it and that fix that one if I can find the obvious problem Quote

HydroTek Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Core plugs under the valve cover ? or the oil cooler -- remove and wash it out then rig up air and submerge in a bucket of water Quote
Binderdan Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Are we sure it is a Hough H60 and or D282? My literature doesn't show a D-282 coming in an H-60. Not to say someone hasn't done some swapping. The D-282 did come in a Hough H30B, H50B, and H50C. Depending on which H60 as there was an H60, H60B, H60C, and an H60E all with different engines, none being D-282. Not trying to be argumentative but the D-282 looks to be a dry sleeve engine whereas some of the other possibilities are not. Wanted to be sure we are talking about the right animal. Quote
756puller Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 It sure looked like a 282 with the injection pump on the right side of engine and thought the decals said h-60 Quote
Binderoid Posted February 1 Posted February 1 So what does the literature say about what engine was the H60 equipped with? Quote
Dirt_Floor_Poor Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Wasn’t there a larger displacement diesel that was just parent bore and did not use the dry sleeves of the 282? D301 I think. Quote

Binderdan Posted February 1 Posted February 1 According to the sales literature for a H60 (not a H60B, H60C, or H60E) the engine options were an IH gas G-372, Cummins JF-6C1, or Detroit 3-71. That's why I ask. Quote
Timothy562020 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 What is a Cummins JF-6C1? I am lucky enough to have a 1968 Hough with a 358 V6 cummins . It needs a head gasket as it is putting pressure in the radiator. Quote
McCormick 40 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 I had a D282 that was getting coolant in the oil and It had a cracked cylinder sleeve. It would also get pressure in the radiator if run above half throttle. Quote

I replaced the sleeve and all is well now for many years. Quote
756puller Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 Did swing back by and looked at engine serial number, would this number be early or late? It is in an h-60 also Quote
