This ad for Oliver tractors from the 1970s looks similar to Loadstar's Cockshutts.

NOw that is unique, the El Toro. . Never saw that name used here on the 1950. I wonder if that ad is from the seventies? Seems to me that here, by 1970 or after they were calling them all "White/Cockshutt" tractors. No more Oliver. I should really look it up though.

Funny name, "Same". When I read your post I assumed you were referring to another ad for Oliver tractors. :-)

A little more on the Cockshutt/Oliver/White subject. I can't recall just when the name Oliver disappeared but it seemed by the early seventies it was gone here. This White/Cockshutt brochure from the early seventies I have mentions Minneapolis and Cockshutt but no word of Oliver.

Loadstar, I have found an ad for the Plainsman tractor from 1973. The photo in the Australian ad looks to be a cropped copy of the one you posted.

I have never seen these tractors.

Loadstar, I have found an ad for the Plainsman tractor from 1973. The photo in the Australian ad looks to be a cropped copy of the one you posted.

I have never seen these tractors.

Another view of the Plainsman 4wheel drive and the 2150 front wheel assist tractor. There were a few of these sold around here.

That Uni ad is pretty cool.............Back in the day they probably were a pretty good deal for a decent size dairy/crop farming operation, but unfortunately the problem with the Uni was it was supposed to be universal and in the end did none of it really well...................Poor choppers didin't have much capcity, combines were in the same boat, poor heads, and the tractors were underpowered up until the late grey models with the Cummins. They did pick corn pretty decent, and the best job for them............Snowblower, but their time came and went. They are still popular here in PA, but parts are becoming a issue.

Sounds like they are like many machines that are marketted to do many tasks but not any really well.

These machines were some of the first big implements available at a time when tractors were getting bigger.

The Fieldspan cultivators were often used with two tractors hooked together to allow faster working of ground.

The seeder is made up of modules that are hinged together, I have seen 4 modules working as one unit. They were designed for end-tow for ease of moving on the road.

A pair of ads for John Shearer cultivator and seeder from the 1970s.

These machines were some of the first big implements available at a time when tractors were getting bigger.

The Fieldspan cultivators were often used with two tractors hooked together to allow faster working of ground.

The seeder is made up of modules that are hinged together, I have seen 4 modules working as one unit. They were designed for end-tow for ease of moving on the road.

I noticed no sign of hydraulic fold wings on the seeders . Guess the end tow would work for transport though.

Speaking of bigger farm equipment, how about a front end loader to fit a four wheel drive tractor? I have never actually seen one but this ad for Artsway loaders shows one installed on a 1470 Case 4 WD. Should be the real thing for handling the big round bales and no worries of weak front spindles.

I was posting a truck ad over on the IH truck board and figured I might put one on here too. This 1940 beverage truck showed up in the pages of National Geographic.

Ralph, saw a loader like that several years ago working snow in the parking lot of the Miejers [sp.] in Lafayette ,In., some 10 years ago. Had a oversize bucket , Was on a 2470 and man he could move snow. Also about the same timje frame I priced a IH cab and chassis with a Knaphiede platform with a cab as your beverage truck. Had been a implement truck for IH dealer when new. Was in tough condition and too rich for my blood.

We have a 4000 on our 806. Its a heavy loader. 806 frontend wasnt really made for that kind of stuff. years ago when those were new Arts Way had a display at the Iowa state fair with a 5000 on a massey 4wd with a v8 in it. They had it running and was using the loader to raise and lower the front end of the tractor off the ground.

Dad and mom took his fairly new then 74 chevy pickup to Esterville, IA and picked that loader up from the factory when he bought it. I remember when they got home how that old pickup was sqautted down in the rear. Of course the next day I had to go to school and never got to help put it on the tractor.

They are sure something you dont see many of. I look for them on tractor house from time to time and never see any.

Another pull-type PTO header, this one from John Deere sold in Australia. This information comes from a Power Farming Annual of 1988 and not a very good photo of the machine.

It is interesting to read the description of how the cutting platform was attached to a cart for transport, with the cart attached to the harvester. During transport the cart swung out and behind the machine. I have never seen one of these machines and I wonder how well this worked.

Some more images I have found showing how the cutting plat form is attached to the John Deere 1051 pull type harvester sold in Australia.

I wonder if the designer of the JD 360 Swinger disc was involved in designing this system - has many similarities.

I have just received an email from Ron in West Australia in response to this post featuring a Chamberlain John Deere header with its front that could be swung behind the machine for transport.

Ron tells me he has done some research into these machines and they were designed by CJD at Welshpool, West Australia. They were sold during the 1980s and only 50 machines were made.

He has sent me some photos of a machine at work and a series of photos of a 1/16 model of the 1051 he has made. The tractor is a JD 5020 he bought and after its 40 years use as a toy, he has restored the tractor.

Ron is involved with a museum near Perth, WA and they are getting a 1051 header to go into their collection.

Following from my previous post, here are some more photos of Chamberlain models Ron of West Australia has made.

Firstly a Chamberlain Super 70 tractor, next a Chamberlain 18 disc plough, Chamberlain 24 tyne scarifier, Chamberlain 40KA tractor and the Super 70 tractor.

Next from Ron,

A photo of triple WD9 tractors which have been fitted with Perkins 6.354 engines. These tractors were made to work on a large WA farm in the 70s and 80s. This tractor is also in the museum Ron is involved with.

Ran has made a model of the triple tractors and 4 disc ploughs to go with it. He says the tractor actually worked with 6 Shearer 14 disc ploughs but he decided to make 4 20 disc machines to make it a bit easier for himself.

What great models.
