brewcrew Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I’m looking at replacing a ta soon, and I figured on doing the mcv pump as well, and new hytran. What do I need for gaskets? Anything else I might miss as an amateur? I’ll have an experienced guy helping, but I want everything on hand ahead of time. Thanks! Quote
nate Posted January 7 Posted January 7 By no means seasoned at that job, but a few things I can think of. Engine rear main if it’s wet. Pto gear, clutch, pilot bearing Quote

I'm no expert, but definitely check out your main clutch parts, rear main seal and PTO spline drive as nate said. Also check your transmission input shaft seal and the transmission bearings. I would check/replace your MCV pump and could reseal the MCV at the same time. While you're in there, it's also the most convenient time to check your clutch brake too since the fluid is drained and replace the pad if needed. Also make sure you install a new O-ring for the pump suction line between the TA and the rear end housings. At the end make sure to adjust the main clutch, trans. dump valve, transmission brake and clutch booster (if your tractor has one) so that they work properly. What tractor is this for? Quote

mrfred54 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Direct drive quill gear and needle bearings. Old TA probably has only three direct drive clutches disc and new will have four disc's Quote
HydroTek Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Depending on the TA kit , may need the counter shaft gear pitch is different on the gear teeth Quote
DirtBoyz07 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I would recommend the HD TA unit , MCV overhaul kit , Quill shaft , Live power shaft ? Clutch / psi plate / rear main seal , spring loaded trans brake kit / is a for sure !! look at shifting forks , inspection of gears , you can test your MCV pump after it’s off . Fill the pump with parts washer / diesel fuel turn over by hand and hold you finger over the small hole of the pump and turn the gear in rotation , if it won’t push the fluid past your finger the pump is worn , replace it . Put the stock gallon pump in it if it’s a 06,56,66 I have seen some issues putting in the bigger pump with a hyd whining at the MCV . Make sure you put a rubber band on the pinion bearing when putting the ta housing back on the rearend housing . Danny 2 Quote
Diesel Doctor Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Check the lower transmission hollow shaft nut at the second split in the TA housing? Those can loosen up. They have to be very tight. Some guys put a spot of weld on them to be sure it does not come loose. You are at the main clutch as others have said. Now is the time. When you think you have all the parts needed, you will be wrong. Quote
HydroTek Posted January 9 Posted January 9 wide nut and thick spacers like used on the '86 series helps with the nut backing off -- also use red loc-tite There was a left hand nut and shaft also Quote
mrfred54 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Another thing I always check, The nut on the pinion shaft is loose quite often. This is where you want to install a rubber band around the pilot bearing when going together Quote
