I got the red tractor and (correct) green plow in the field yesterday. First time back in the field for the 826 in ten years.

Nice field, no rocks. Didn’t get a chance to see how the SARs worked. Not complaining.

It wasn’t leaving a nice clean furrow wall. I thought perhaps the coulters weren’t deep enough. Tried lowering them but it didn’t appear to make a difference.

The ramp extensions did their job.

Estimated I used 12-13 gallons of fuel to do about 8 acres.

I’ve been away from this so long, I’m not sure how that compares.

Was moving along at 6.5 mph.

*Additional note: After the second day, my estimate of total acres plowed and fuel usage calculates to 1.67 gal/ac.

Continued reassembly of parts on bottoms #4 & 1.

When I began bolting on the support bracket in the back, it was obvious something was wrong.
IMG_1653.thumb.jpeg.180c109e6a4631ad5832d3ae238925c5.jpeg

First thought was the new moldboard was not the correct one; different curvature, whatever. The new moldboard was stamped R419-16 whereas the old ones are marked R619, which I, up until this point, had always thought were the same. So I lay the old moldboard against it and though it wasn’t a perfect match, it was that close that I could see that the moldboard wasn’t the problem.

Off came the brace and, holding it up against those on the other bottoms, it became obvious that the bend on the end where it bolts onto the landside was not the same.

I cannot explain why that support bracket, which had been just like all the rest of them as they were on the plow before disassembly, did not have the same angle at that bend. There is only one explanation:

So out came the torch, heated it and pulled it together with a long, full thread bolt.

Brace might be for a speedex not a radex

Looking good.

Where is the coulter in relation to the point? Depending on soil conditions the coulters need moved around. Looser soils need it moved over away from the point. Harder soils can be closer to the point. Wouldn't hurt to move them back towards the rear where they were.

Before getting to the field, I’d had them adjusted so they were about an inch away, toward the unplowed side, from the edge of the shin. In actual operation, they looked like they were running in line with the shins.

So what was happening is consistent with your explanation.

This probably qualifies. Buddy Mike C.,  the one in the above video, got a line on another roll-over plow. So today we went East a couple hours and brought it back home. Has great left-hand wear parts but no hitch. It will be combined with the other one he has and 2 will become one and some parts.

Well, apparently I just can not help myself! Found out about an online auction Monday night. That's why you go have a barley pop at the Ike's with the guys I guess? Anyway, Looked at the catalog, lo and behold here is what I believe is a 365 Oliver fully mounted 4-16's! Been wanting something of this sort for quite awhile now. There were 5, I think, other plows there. I bid on three of them but only won the 365. It's going to need some wear parts, I have new shares I'm pretty sure will work. Will look for shins and landsides today.

Question now is, what tractor to hook this thing on? 856 would pull it in high 2 direct but really don't need to go quite that fast! 185 would be a good candidate and may get the nod, it's lighter than the Red girls. 756 would be another choice provided I get her fixed and back in the game. 450 might even get a shot at this someday?

As you can see in the last photo, buster bar got removed before I took the chains loose. No a fan! May even advertise it for sale, Have another smaller harrow type attachment thing that came on a 53 Allis plow years ago. Probably should advertise them both as neither will go back on a plow here.

That looks nice.  I'd love to find a 450 IH mounted plow someday but don't see many around here in IA.

You must have a pretty stout 450 if you think you are going to try that plow on it.  I personally wouldn't want to pull that, or lift it, with something smaller than the 756.

How stout the 450 is remains to be seen. Time will tell..... It does have a 10 hole weight bracket and I have lots of weights for the rear.

Since I’ll be hauling this plow around a lot, I made up a few metal plates with D rings welded on so I can hook up cargo chains without having to wrap them around various parts of the plow frame all the time.

IMG_1968.thumb.jpeg.8dba486075aa03a84fec480ef2f0f31b.jpegIMG_1970.thumb.jpeg.b467c0e217f4d9e1ccf9f480cbda4e8c.jpegIMG_1971.thumb.jpeg.76dd30f20f6f093477e58530a5bc641e.jpeg

I also fastened a metal plate to the deck where the support stand lands. Chaining it down put too much pressure on a single deck plank. I also replaced the original support stand that had been bent (before I bought the plow) with a piece made of channel iron. I figured it couldn’t hurt to beef that up with the forces that could be exerted on it with the cargo chains.

Well, another on-line auction, another Meadow Green plow in the stable. Need it like another hole in the head but couldn't let it get by. Here's video of the day it came home;

Maybe you guys can see why I started this thread? This one will be a project, hopefully I can make a working piece of equipment out of it.

I’m not clear on how those subsoiler shanks are meant to be used. Bolted on the side of the plow beam and used as you plow or put on in place of the bottoms? Or do you get the bottoms up in the tripped position to use the subsoilers?

How many are there? Looked like only two.

Good luck with the project.

John, I"think" they bolt to the bottoms some how, will have to investigate that. They hang down bellow and depth is adjustable. The thinking was to sub-soil while you were plowing. Downside was that HP requirements go up a fair bit. That Oliver Guy says that is only the second set he's seen, he has the other. They do show in my 560 series Parts Catalog. More research is in order.

I like the to digress a question about the Oliver high speed design , I assume the ones in photos are that design , how much faster are they ?

Dennis, I don't have a real good answer to your question but here's my take; I think they were designed for 6-6.5 MPH as opposed to 4-4.5 for the regular bottoms. The 565 with the high speed bottoms did a fantastic job, even at lower speeds. You can see it in action here.

At about the 13 minute mark my buddy Dan is running it following the 2150 that was going rather slow.

Was wishing I had an update to this thread, then thought of this. Went down to my buddy Mike's today. We morphed the two 3 bottom rollover plows into one. Probably should have taken pics or shot video along the way.....

He's still got trouble with the roll-over cylinder but it's much closer to usable than it has been.

Jury is out as to whether he will take it to Hutchinson or not.
