TD-9 International Dozer Info!!

Hello everyone, I recently got this TD-9 International Dozer. If anyone knows, what is the difference between a TD-9 international dozer motor and a W-9 international Tractor? Other than one is gas and diesel, I’m trying to see the difference in power and torque! And to see which motor is better over all. Does the TD-9 international dozer motor fit in the W-9 tractor if I were to swap motors? Also I’m not to familiar with the TD-9 dozer, I’ve notice one of the tracks is locked up and I’m also trying to get it running. How much does these dozers go for in price $$ running and not running? I’d like to know as much info on this dozer as possible to get my gears and thoughts turning!!

From your serial # its a 1949. D335 cubic inch 4 cylinder. I cant answer your specific question about WD9 motor swapping but googly it on the archives here and you should be able to get lots of information/answers. Is a final drive locked up? Looks like someone tried to rebuild it at one time- new alternator etc. Final drives and cracked heads were big issues.

From previous discussions here I believe the engines swap. At least gas to gas and diesel to diesel. If it will not roll, the first place to look is brake brand rusted to brake drum. Also common for steering clutch plate to rust together and not steer, but should still roll.

 

Around here it is hard to find a head that is not cracked for any gas start IH diesels. So they use to go at scrap price. With them not being so plentiful a bit more. Just saw one on market place local. The current owner has no idea if it runs and wants $3500/OBO. Oh he has no idea what brand it is ether 😵‍💫 he thinks maybe Oliver.😉 He has good picture it is IH TD9.

I have a friend that really likes the TD 6's for vineyard work. Has a number of them. All the same parts are worn out. Has had no luck in finding new parts. Broke down and bought a New Holland/Fiat about 10 years ago, Has it warn and needed parts and dealer was having trouble finding those. Took better than 6 months to com from Italy.

 

So until it at least rolls it is worth scrap price in my eyes.

...the bell housings are quite different between the Wheel tractor and Crawler ...as are the clutch componentry....Bit of work there swapping them around.....

,,as Ray said above, brake drum s could be rusted up...

..looks like it might have been pulling a small scraper in its lost youth.....certainly would have trod  lightly on those wide grousers

I think the starters mount opposite facing from the tractors to dozers, I think KOO had a tutorial on what had to change, I'll see if I can find it and link, might have been a couple other items as well, the starters rotate opposite if going from diesel to gas also IIRC 🤔

Concerning value - right now it is worth scrap price. 

If you get it running on both the gas and diesel side, and get everything else basically working correctly, I think it would bring $2500-4000 around here. And would take a while to sell. Best of luck with your machine. But I would not look at it as a "fix and flip for profit" type project. Even if it was given to you. I might easily cost more to bring it operational than it would the sell for. Not saying don't fix it, just want you to have realistic expectations of repair cost and selling value.

...the pins and bush's are very worn...just to add to your fiscal calculations.... That comment from observing the gaps between grouser plates,  from the pictures provided.....

By looking at the slide for the front idler, I would say a link has been removed. It's no where near the end for a cat that old. In my opinion anyhow
