searcyfarms Posted January 16 Posted January 16 so it seems more are getting into this hobby and each have their passions we are now allowed to use thermals for coyotes from jan thru september here in missouri my cousin and his boy and friends are doing tournaments and are doing day/night combos with raccoons, cats and coyotes they are using thermal, one uses a RIX HD6 and the other an AGM Contractor - guy at church uses a thermal scanner and night vision to close the deal he likes to scan with thermal, pick something out and then stalk hunt it with the night vision, he is former military so not sure if that is kind of how they did things or not or just a hobby to try to pull it off i didnt get to take with him long enough will ask more when i see him next week any of you all doing it ? what do you use? would you pick a specific type/brand ? they are $$$$ not cheap for sure and the more spendy ones come equipped with an LRF built in with the way our country is going it might be something to invest in for the zombie apocalypse 🤣 Quote
Sledgehammer Posted January 16 Posted January 16 RIX drops a brand new 1280 scope tomorrow. I think they will be in the $7K range. Too much for me but I know a guy going to buy one Monday. The people I know use thermal exclusively. Use a handheld scanner to find and then get on the scope to shoot. Guns are setup on tripods. 1 Quote

Rawleigh99 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Farm museum I'm on the board of has an annual varmint tournament. We started it 3 or 4 years ago. It has been very successful. The first couple of years we had a lot of pushback from the local anti hunters and liberals. Then we stopped advertising it and just went by word of mouth. It's been a great thing for the museum. All of the hunting takes place at night over period of 3 days. You can hunt anywhere you want east of the Mississippi but you have to check in on Sunday with the carcasses. It's been a great fundraiser. This year one of our prizes was a thermal imager. I think all the hunters use thermal scopes. 1 Quote
