ComancheStarFarms Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 We’re working on doing the best quality restoration that we can on a 1256. Can anyone give the size & grade of the bolts used to mount a factory IH ROPS & canopy? Can anyone identify a source for where I can purchase the bolts? Thanks! Quote

Does yours have 4 or 6 bolts per side ? I've seen both and they are different sizes between the two. Definitely want correct grade bolts . Quote
ComancheStarFarms Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Thanks Bitty & Nate. Diagrams are very helpful. I’ll double check but I think the plates are 5 bolts each. Finding grade 8 bolts that are long enough is more of a challenge than I would’ve thought. But haven’t spent much time looking yet. - Jonathan Quote
1480x3 Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Bought a used rops & shade for a JD 4020 cheap, had to get bolts. Gave $100 for rops /shade & $200+ for correct bolts, grade 7. Never heard of them before. Could have saved $ but thought someday as i lay in a hospital bed would i think "sure am glad i saved 80 bucks on those bolts, i can put that towards my copay" 2 Quote
ComancheStarFarms Posted December 25, 2023 Author Posted December 25, 2023 Good analogy on cost vs safety. With that being said I don’t want to way over pay unnecessarily. I recently saw a completed auction notice that bragged about selling older IH tractors. Three went for over $100K each with the high winning bid being $148K for a 1026. I like a good 1026 but don’t want to grossly overpay. Same concept with these bolts - I don’t mind paying high dollar for safety but don’t want to overpay by way too much. Thanks again for giving me a good price range to expect! Quote
Matt Kirsch Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 Fair enough, but we're talking about bolts here. Easy to shop around for. McMaster Carr. Fastenal. Old school farm supply/hardware. Bolts this size and grade are not going to be cheap no matter where you go. You're probably looking at a $20 spread from "cheapest" to "grossly overpaid" on bolts this big so is it really so "gross?" DT Fan Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 I'd check McMaster Carr first, if they don't have them they will be hard to find! Quote
ComancheStarFarms Posted December 25, 2023 Author Posted December 25, 2023 Never heard of McMaster Carr. That’s what I was looking for - thanks for the good help Matt & DT Fan! I’ll get on their website today. Merry Christmas to all! 2 Quote
