hosmercattle Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Just started a rebuild on a ud18a for our sawmill restoration and will be looking for parts. Right now looking for head gasket and liner o-rings for sure. Possibly will need more depending on how things look when I get it fully apart. Just wondering where I should start looking any info is much appreciated. Thanks Quote
jimmar01 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 a few years back I was rebuilding a UD350 power plant for a Bucyrus Erie 15b crane and the guys on here were a tremendous help. What model sawmill are you restoring? 1 Quote
exSW Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I'd check irrigation supply companies. I was shocked a couple years ago to find a company that still supported the big Minneapolis Moline 800ci stationary engines. 1 Quote
waterloo Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 What stage are you at in your rebuild? I work on a lot of old power units IHC and cat Quote
hosmercattle Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Hopefully tomorrow we will have the pistons and sleeves pulled out so we can have a better look at everything and go from there. Been busy working on few other projects as well. Quote
hosmercattle Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 So we got the heads off and pulled the pistons out and doesn't look great. Pistons look ok but definitely gonna need new liners. Any ideas where they can be found other than previously mentioned would be appreciated, thanks a lot Quote
hardtail Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 You could try Carr's Repair or LA Sleeve Quote
hosmercattle Posted February 9, 2020 Author Posted February 9, 2020 I have found a spare parts engine I might be able to use any idea what would be the max allowable piston to liner clearance for an engine like this? Don't want piston slap but for an engine thats only gonna run limited hours in a year just curious others thoughts on how much would be too much. Thanks Quote

hosmercattle Posted June 8, 2020 Author Posted June 8, 2020 What would be considered the top of the piston skirt? Under the bottom ring or the top of the piston? Measuring on the bottom and under the rings there is around .010 " piston to wall clearance but at the top of the pistons it looks like there is 2 built in rings and there measures around .030" piston to wall clearance which seems excessive to me but not sure. Not sure if I'm measuring this correctly or if this is normal. Thanks for any advice. Quote
rustred Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 top of the skirt is top of the skirt under the rings. i would say you are good. post a piston picture. Quote
