  1. Inner axle bearing is my guess. It could also be from a brake pinion bearing or differential bearing too, but looks a bit small in the picture. Those typically get pretty talkative if they are out....but would be hard to hear in a 4x4 of that vintage. I would drain the housings/mainframe and see what falls out.....if nothing go probing in the drain holes with a flexible magnet to see what you can find.
  2. I've been involved in similar situations and more than likely the owners will have to pay for disposing of the majority of that list...especially given the state it's located in. I would contact NRI Metals or Leder Bros to start.....they will come out to assess the situation and can offer suggestions for the appropriate folks to dispose of the items they are not able to accept as well as advise on what government involvement will be required to keep things legal.
  3. This has been diacussed many, many times....pretty simple fix, no rocket science involved. Just buy a new accumulator with a schraeder valve from surplus center or wherever that matches or is larger then the capacity listed on the original, mount it to the back of the seat and have a hydraulic hose made up to connect the two. You'll need to adjust the pressure in the accumulator to suit your needs...bleed it off or inflate with an air compressor as needed. The new accumulator will probably have around 2500 psi and you'll only need around 100 or so depending on operator weight.
  4. I hate to think how much I've spent on beds over the years. We tried a "Purple" mattress and that was a very short lived thing. We had a high end "Mattress King" and got tired of paying for the "adjustments" every year (read the fine print carefully on their lifetime comfort guarantee.....lol). We currently have a Juna with the split adjustable base and its been better but nothing outstanding by any means. I will say that Juna has been good about coming out to the farm to make adjustments every couple years for no charge. Just a tidbit about those split adjustable bases - you need to have either 2 seperate mattresses or a "H" cut mattress for them to work and even then if one side is flat and the other raised very much the sheets and blankets form a ramp and pull/annoy the person trying to sleep flat.
  5. To each their own - I eliminated the TA in my 1256 back in the '90s and have never missed it. But....I wouldn't do it to a 66 or 86 with the different gearing and the torque curve of the 400 series engine.
  6. I put in the kit Abelene sells - It took some time and wasn't the easiest thing to do, but it was a lot less work than replacing the sump. Putting it in with the augers out while your putting in the stainless trough liners too would be best. Otherwise...it worked out good for me in the end.
  7. Just for peace of mind...... If it was me, I would take at least the current left axle...better yet both to a machine shop and have them Magnafluxed or Zyglowed to check for stress cracks before you pit it together again.
  8. A lot of the issues with those tractors were related to miss use due to people not understanding their idiosyncrasies and not treating with the care they needed. The extreme heat from those engines really does a number on the pilot and throw out bearings - it literally boils the grease away. A shot of grease does wonders to extend the lift of the throw out bearing. Of course running 250F - 300F hytran as a lubricant through a truck transmission that originally was designed to use 80/90W was an interesting concept as well. I've still got a couple of those tractors, your thread has brought back a lot of memories and I'm enjoying seeing the pictures - thank you.
  9. Did you add the grease hose to the throw out bearing? That is another must grease daily item. Been a while since I was in a 1010-2A Spicer, be careful that they install ag spec bearings rebuilding the transmission. The truck spec kit will give you ball bearings for the countershafts, the ag spec will have double row offset spherical roller bearings. The ball bearings will not stand up long term in an ag application. The 2" input shaft would have been a good idea, but if it isn't going to get run over thousands of acres it isn't the end of the earth.
