  1. Our farm has had a 1086 on it since '93. It was the main tillage tractor until 2012 when it became a secondary tillage tractor. In 2018 it got put on the planter and that's its main job as well as blowing snow since it starts so well. It's been a very nice tractor to plant with. I've heard people say they ride rough but I disagree.
  2. There's a 1456 on MP and another one coming up on an auction in my area. Very tempting but I told my wife no large purchases until our house is paid off. I backed myself into a corner
  3. I was looking at Firestone/Regency
  4. WF. My tire guy suggested this to help level it out with new 20.8s on. We looked at it and decided it will be close. These are 8 bolt as well if that matters
  5. Will 3 bar 11.00x16 tires fit on the front of a F1256 with original I believe to be 8" rims without rubbing?
  6. Someday when everything else is gone from this earth, there'll only be cockroaches and 806s left. 😎
  7. Yea I've heard they can pull hard so I got one size smaller than I thought I could pull maxed out. Just looking to keep the cob webs out of the old girl.
  8. This is a tractor that I use for pulling so it has 20.8-23 degree Firestone radial all traction with about 40% tread. I have two sets of wheel weights and 2000 pounds of suitcase weights I can use to balance as I have a belly bar and rear hanger on the back. I am not against new tires as I have 18.4 duals and still have 18.4 inners on rims that I can put on the duals and put new tires on inners if need be. I'm going to see this fall how the 20.8 singles do to make the decision about whether to run 20.8 singles or put the 18.4s back on and run duals. The singles will stay within my tool width so I'd like to make that work.
  9. Yea I was playing around with the pitch of the rig and if I have it tipped back I can hold 10" consistently but the discs dont cut as well. I'll need to get new discs anyway, they only measure 17".
  10. Yea, I'm sure I won't have any problems pulling it. I wanted to get something useful to use my 1256 for as opposed to working it overly hard.
  11. I just bought a 5 shank Glencoe SS to pull with my 1256. I am curious if anybody knows if a 5 shank GSS with 4" twisted shovels pulls as hard 10"-11" deep as a 4-18 IH 720 MBP 7-8" deep.
  12. The value in these tractors is in the looks and rarity which is artificial to me. Sometimes things are rare for a reason. I'd rather have models with legendary reliability, durability and performance over looks. That being said, I'd like to have that kind of expendable money.
  13. One of the more enjoyable rides to drive on in my area as long as you're not in a hurry. Spring Creek pro Motocross track as well as Meadow Valley amateur track are off of that road about halfway between Zumbro Falls and Wabasha.
  14. The 7788 would be a holy grail tractor to see. It's too bad nobody at IH cared enough to figure out a way to equip the big 4wds with the DT817. The tiling outfit I used to work for built their foundation on a TD25C and that thing got WORKED plowing in tile from the early 70s until they sold it around 2010. The engine was pretty much indestructible.
  15. Happy 250th to the greatest country on the planet!
  16. I had a good experience dealing with Scott. He does a complete tear down of the tractors before he advertises the parts so it makes the transaction quick. I have never dealt with Doug Weber though I have heard good things about him as well.
  17. From what I've seen so far this late winter/spring, vintage tractor values are down a bit. I wish Restoration Tractor was closer to MN. You don't know what you're gonna get at an auction and RT seam to be trustworthy
  18. Jessie among others have had previews on YT for previous auctions. I'm not seeing any this time
  19. I'd call that a deal.
  20. I'm not trying to discredit the topic of the GS tractors for people that are interested in them. But I'd rather spend the extra $10,000 on an original FWA 1456 than what paint color it might have had.
  21. I'd like to add to this that the one neighbor who has cattle yet, still has the original Super77D that his dad bought and he will not part with (he used to drive it to town when he got a DWI). And the original 4020 they bought that he runs hay/corn ground with for his cattle yet. The other neighbor who turned all JD is semi retired but still has a 4430 that he works his ground with. Everything else is hired out.
  22. Two of our closest neighbors were Oliver guys. They both had 770s and 880s. When they had so many Hydra Power problems they switched to JD when the NG tractors came out. Our farm had them also. They didn't stay around long so I don't know if they got rid of them because they heard the Hydra Power was so bad or what. My dad said he did t like the 880 something about the steering. The 1800 they got in the 80s didn't have HP and the current 1755 had over/under which is way more durable from what I know
  23. Just my opinion. Accessibility as you've outlined was probably one reason they didn't sell more. Back in them days our little town had IH JD Oliver and MM to choose from
  24. You're right. "All JD guys" was probably overstating a little. But I stand behind the statement that the rest of the brands sales rising had more to do with JD getting the #1 spot more than JD themselves.
  25. It's likely he was won over by live pto. My grandfather traded in an M for a Super77 D because they thought it would work better on the "green chopper" . And yes it did. That was my uncles favorite tractor. It stayed on the farm quite a few years until it got a gear in the final drive chipped from rolling it down a hill to start it. All JD guys including the ones on here like to believe that JD overtook IH because farmers liked them better. I say everybody else was selling more in the 50s and that's who took sakes from IH. The Oliver's of the late 40s into the 50s was the best line of tractors for that time imo.
