I reckon I have to put my two cents in here, the Amish church had its start when the Amish still lived in the Old Swiss Confederation and in Southern Germany and in the Alsace in France. They split from the Swiss Mennonite Church on a disagreement. Most Mennonites that live in the USA are of Swiss and South German decent. The Last Amish to leave Switzerland was in the 1850s the moved to Indiana they are basically the last Amish group that still speak the Bernese Swiss German Dialect. While the other Amish which are the majority speak Pensylvania Dutch which related to the Paliten German Dialect were the Amish lived but lots of germans from that area came to Pennsylvania.

Schwarz Cultivac Tool Carrier and Bi Directional Tractor sadly only a total of 22 of em were made in 1964 to 1966 The Brother's Hans and Fritz Schwarz of Villingen Switzerland made their first 4 tractors between 1956 to 1958 which was a small bi direction tractor powered with a Clinton 10 hp and with two American made transmissions giving the tractor 10 forward and 6 reverse. In 1958 to 1964 they made two prototypes of the two larger models one had a two cylinder MWM 26hp Diesel and the other had a 38hp of the same make. One of those prototypes still exist today and at least two of the first 4 made. Not sure how many of the production models have survived but my guess is between two or three maybe more

True, compared what was manufactured in Switzerland around that time frame it was the largest tractor! Buhrer which was the largest tractor maker in Switzerland their 100hp tractor came on the market in 1968 and was made into the early half of 70s, they made only 65 of em 14 of which with front wheel assist. Hurlimann made the D800 with over 90hp but only 14 or so where made and its successor the DH6 with over 100 hp maybe only two. Meili another Swiss company made their first 140 or 150 hp tractor in 1950 it weighted three tons and was powered with a Hercules Diesel, only three prototypes were made, a French Locomotiv company wanted to enter the tractor business and wanted to manufacture the Meili tractors in Licence for South America etc. Sadly it never happened and the Prototypes got scrapped, but an engine has reappeared the last few weeks. Meili would make two 150hp Road tractors which only one still exists today.

50 years ago this year Thomas Schilter brought his small Wiesel tractor, it was the Wiesel 222 it had a 2 cylinder Lambordini Diesel engine, later versions had a 26 and 28 hp engine of the same make, between 1976 to 1984 400 units were made.

My grandparents (dad's parents) after they got married in the late 1940s and after the sale of the first crop of apples from the orchard they were able to buy the first 6 cows later two followed and milked by hand, that rent farm had around 25 acres in total, later they moved to a different rent farm with around 30 acres, and had 12 cows to milk by hand at the time in the mid 1950s and grandfather bought the first milking machine in that township all the neighbors came to see it work. Milk cans where brought with a horse and wagon to the cheese Dairy to made into Tilsit cheese. Later the herd number got increased to around 15 to 17 cows and in 1970 they moved to a bid larger rent farm where the herd size grew to around 20 to 25 cows and around that time the Swiss government brought in Supply management because of over production of milk. So the herdsize was fixed to a number from then on for each farm. When my parents took over the rent farm at first we still milked with bucket milkers but I can still remember when the pipelines got installed when I was around 4 or 5 years old. The milk cans we still used at that time, my parents did the driving of the van that collected the milk cans for a few farms that were part of the local Co-op that made Emmental cheese. Than in the late 1990s we moved to Canada and we had a bulk tank ever since. I used to keep goats and a few of them I milked by hand thought to keep the know how of that alive.
