highcotton Posted June 5 Posted June 5 The 1486 I recently did the differential on has shown back up, but for a different issue. I put a clutch in when the diff was done. Neighbor said it “doesn’t want to go”- I immediately started thinking TA. When you let the clutch out, it just sorta sits there- lube light on- until you give it some throttle. Then it jerks and starts going- lube light off. Light worked as it should when it left after adjustments were complete on new clutch. Is this possibly a MCV pump issue? Planning to put the isolator in and check pressures, but I’m not ready to condemn the TA just yet. Quote
HydroTek Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Well ...if the clutch is holding , then the sprag is out -- TA will pull in low even with no oil in the trans 1 Quote
HydroTek Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Disconnect the dump valve for testing -- and be sure it snaps back in easily Quote

The lube light on means no oil pressure, once it goes out the pressure builds and now the hold back clutchs on low side of TA grab and it drives. Quote
highcotton Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 I got my hands on an OEM service manual and went through the test procedures. Pressures are 270 and 22 in TA, 245 and 21 in middle position, and 270 and 22 in DD. Steering to stops is 40 and 0. I may not have been clear in first post- tractor will pull and move in both TA and DD, it just won’t take off until you give it some throttle. Tractor responds when shifting from DD to TA. I’ve put in several TA’s, just none showing these symptoms. Quote
snoshoe Posted July 11 Posted July 11 You're losing it in the steering. First guess would be oring and gasket in mcv Quote
FarmerFixEmUp Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Was there a lot of debris in the transmission from the differential failure.? May have taken the TA out. You guys remember the "clean up filters?" 1 Quote
highcotton Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 There was a good deal of powdered metal in the housings- he has decided to replace TA, MCV , etc. 1 Quote
