Very rare to get into a 3rd cutting, for dry hay, here in NY.

guys that chop everything or round  bale wet,  they are just starting third now.

Made 25 round bales before I buried the swather yesterday.  Can’t forget the 560.

Today went better.  I mowed the swamp with the Super A.  One corner had standing water, glad I didn’t get out further in it yesterday.

Found a spike elk antler, just happened to be sitting on a thin spot of grass so I could see it. I’ve hit antlers in the past with the haybine. That gets your attention in a hurry.

Spent the rest of the day cutting.

Knocked down the rest of the east 50 acres, started on the west 50. Got 10-12 acres down before a rock knocked out a section. The sun was behind the mountain by that time so I shut it down. I’ll fix the cutter bar tomorrow morning when it’s cool.

I’ve been going at it like crazy for the past five weeks.
Didn’t accomplish much this past week because it rained Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ve been able to catch up on some sleep, maintenance and repairs.

 So far I have over 3600 bales and 525 acres done and another 300 to go of first cut. I’ve been averaging 7 bales per acre, the bales are 3 x 3 x 8 at about 800 pounds each. Second cut is looking good, I’ll start on it as soon as I’m finished first cut.

Here’s some pictures of my equipment. 
 1486 and 7120 are both pulling Hesston built 12 foot pivot tongue disc mowers. 
 Hydro 186 on the tedder. 
 Started off with the 3688 and 1086 on Kuhn 9032 double rakes but the 3688 PTO quit so I put the 986 on the rake. 
 MX 220 on the baler. 
 The girl next-door drives the New Holland L180 skid steer two bunch up the bales in the field. 
 MX 110 and Hydro 186 are the loader tractors in the field and another Hydro 186 to unload the trailers and stack the hay in the domes. 
Then the two trucks and trailers to haul the bales in.

Looking at my pictures you would think that I was haying a big field. I only have 75 acres and 15 acres of that is house/barn and such. Another 15 or so was hayed earlier. I really doubt that there’s 15 acres there.
