d301 questions

I have a 706 with a D301 in it and it seems to run great and pull great except when I am on the road going downhill it starts to cut out and puff white smoke unless I throttle it down. And also the fuel pump leaks around where the injector lines hook up, does it just need new seals?

The 301 would not be original. The white puffing sounds like a load advance pump that needs just a tweak on the advance screw. Also not original.

You have a choice of three gaskets for the injection lines. Original copper, plain steel or steel with teflon insert. My personal preference is the steel. Do not overtighten. Can stretch banjo bolts and seize head. Cleanliness extremely important.

the early ones used the same 282 engine as the 60 series 560, 660, in 1966 the german 310 replaced the 282 in these tractors. maybe that is what you have . or post your engine pic.

The D282 AND D301 look the same to me.  How do you tell them apart?

Didn't the D282 in the 706 have a different head or something than the earlier ones in the 560.

the 301 is a sleeveless engine such as in the combines.  the later 282's were to have larger intake valves in the 706. the 282 is stamped under the oil filter housing.

When I bought this tractor in January it was supposed to have a cracked sleeve so I tore it apart and it didn't have sleeves our mechanic told us it was most likely the injectors so he tested them and they were terrible so we put new injectors in it and the clicking noise stopped.

Also the oil seems to be twice as full as it should be

Bad nozzles will wash fuel past the rings into the pan.

The nozzle fix should have cured that.

If you haven't done so, change it.

We just sent of the old injectors and our new ones came back so it should all be fine.
