Fuel in the crankcase

I just got a 656D 282

the old owner told me to make sure I turn off the fuel. I forgot and when I started it fuel and oil came out of the blow by like a fire hose. 
Could the fuel be getting past the injection pump into the crank case?

Yes,through it.

Don't run it or you will spin a bearing. 

Flex ring out in injection pump, return clogged and now building too much case pressure in the injection pump. Cup seals on pump shaft will not handle excessive case pressure. 

Make sure return line on top cover of pump is clean / open back to tank.

Common for the flex ring to fail with age

This plugs the fitting on the top cover of the pump -- the one with the little glass check ball
the rubber particles can be cleaned out , but is a pain
air and a small pick will do the job

Check the fitting in the bottom of the fuel tank -- some had a check valve there also
best just to remove the brass ball and spring from that fitting

The pump will need a rebuild at some point to replace the flex coupler ring
but will not keep you from using the tractor until there is a break in the work

I had that happen to my 1105 massey that an employee was driving on a long  drive. It locked down in the hwy!!
