wild one Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Son in law has 2018 F150 with 3.5 he had bought from his father,always serviced and well taken care of. At 120,000 miles the transmission goes. Takes it to a well respected transmission shop to get a rebuilt. They install first rebuilt and won't even let it leave the shop since it was apparently is junk! Order another and all is fine til about 400 miles when transmission began doing all kinds of weird shifting. Made it home and saw the small boat he was towing covered in oil. Hauled it back to transmission shop to have it checked out. They found the oil cooler line was loose but said his problem was he ran the truck too low on fuel!! 25 miles to empty. They told him there is a service bulletin to not run the truck at less than 1/4 tank fuel??? Didn't say much about not getting oil cooler line tight! Was there actually such a bulletin? Quote

What the fuel level would have to do with a leaking cooler line is beyond my comprehension. Fuel pumps run cooler when submerged in fuel, which would make keeping the fuel level above a quarter tank a good practice, but I haven't found a TSB related to it. TSBs are public information. If they know of a service bulletin they should be able to produce it and show you where it applies to his failed transmission. Or more accurately their service failure. 1 Quote
