1460 rock trap

need to replace rock trap beater shaft and bearings. Do I have to take off feeder house and rock trap, or can I take wheel off on one side to get shaft pulled out, do bearings come out from inside out or from outside in. anyone done this job before? any advice is welcome. Thanks George

Pull wheel plan on new shaft and the bearings tip in just like in a pillow block

Pull feeder house, set it on a cherry picker, the hyd pump and hoses from left side of feeder , unbolt assembly hang it on step assembly, un hook cylinders from feeder and back away. 

Now you can remove rocktrap and work on it easily. I would never try to work on it still on combine or a feederhouse shaft and sprockets. 

Assembly is what is the part you need to hold beater, get shims placed where needed as they were between the bearings spacer and beater. 

Make sure the spacers with that keystock welded on it are installed correctly when going together. They act as a little auger to move material away from bearing. Installed backwards will pack material against the bearing.

I agree. No more time than is involved to remove feeder house it would make it way easier! Not sure it would hardly be possible on machine to fix

I know of one neighbor that took his feeder off with it attached to cornhead.

Thanks for the replies. The only way the rock trap beater shaft bearings can be replaced is by taking out the beater.so the feeder house and trap have to be removed
