nikd45 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I just recently picked up a 1983 5088 from a friend. He did some transmission updates 1.5 years ago, he got the parts from a guy in USA that specializes in these things (im assuming Mr. Links) and has been having some issues since putting it back together. He got out of farming, so I got the tractor from him. Ive been reading alot on this pages the last few days about many of the 5088 issues Im having an issues with the sentry light coming on in Even gears. Odd gears work fine. Ive completed and/or tested the following so far: -Wired the sentry as per links' recommendations (Grounded and keyed power) -I've shimmed the spring to bump regulated pressure -I've switched pressure switches, issues still remains on the even side -I've switched solenoids and valves on the left aide of the trans, no change -I've checked pressures at both the pressure switches (was 160psi at high and 240psi at low prior to shim, which is now 190psi at high and 290psi low) Ive noticed the high? (Forward pressure switch) at times doesnt jump up quickly is pressure, rather a slow climb then trips the sentry because it hasn't hit the 58psi mark prior to its time limit. Other times it jumps up quicker and will allow the shift, but still much lower (190psi max) than spec. Pressure stays steady when using other functions, although when driving through the gears the higher the gear the more the pressure on the even aide would rise. I seen it get up to 210-220psi in High 6 gear and hold there while cruising the road. Im at a loss at this point, as to why the even side Pressure is much different than the odd side. Any insight would greatly be appreciated. Quote
FarmerFixEmUp Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Must be a leak in the high side clutch piston seal or something on the shaft the hi low clutches are on. Are you checking the pressure with the switch in the valve? There's a small pipe plug in the valve next to switch port. Quote
HydroTek Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Gonna be tearing into the two speed tell us what you find when you get the clutch pack out -- pictures , we like pictures Shaft seals or high side piston seals most likely Quote

Yes I was checking the pressures via the pipe plug port, with the pressure switch still in place. Quote

Now we're all human, and something could've been missed or not install correctly Quote
nikd45 Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 Update: RH battery was completely shot. I have installed another (used) RH battery, cleaned the ground point at the cab where all the harness ground connect to. Resistance at the 2 solenoid ground wire on the left side of the trans were 24ohms (high solenoid) and 19ohms (low solenoid) prior to the new battery and cleaning the ground points. Now its down to 1.4ohms each. It appears to be shifting better (quicker to 58psi) and not tripping sentry light. But still pressures are lower in the high vs low side. 200psi vs 290psi. I cant do too much testing as the rad is removed for replacement as it was leaking all across the top tank. Quote

acem Posted July 25 Posted July 25 A general thought. Inspect all the lines and fittings for leaks, kinks, etc. You just did the work so something may have happened. Or was it part of the original problem that was not fixed??? Just thinking here. Quote

I will have to ask more about what the original issue was, i know he was having issues prior to rebuilding the speed trans. 1 Quote
