HydroTek Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Everything just falls out the bottom remove the square connector and lock nut Maybe you found why the unit has not been working ... something in the spool keeping it from moving lie it should You can remove the top nut and all the stuff inside , maybe will find something there holding the spool Seen that top cup get damaged by putting it in the wrong direction (open part faces down) or the small washer get split 1 Quote
sandhiller Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 I'm thinking now maybe a piece of that broken pin is hanging me up in the inlet port somehow??? Won't let anything drop out the bottom I'm going to take out the test plug and see if I can see in there in hopes of finding what's hanging me up Quote

sandhiller Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Oh and just keep this thread going all over the place I now can't operate the loader with the tractor hyd's like before I still get 1700 psi at relief at both sets of rear couplers and it will run all loader functions until I put a bale in the bucket it will close grapple fairly tight but will not curl or lift it off the ground Hydro, steering and 3pt seem pretty normal but it does sound like its cavitating from time to time, and I will lose steering first full of oil with two new hyd filters Quote

Ot moved around freely but definitely a hard stop trying to go down. I really thought it could be a part of the broken pin but no idea how to check or fix Or something else Quote
HydroTek Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Roll the pto unit around on the floor to a different position -- maybe whatever is blocking the spool will move the little pin (400518) may be almost worked out of the hole in the valve -- that could be a difficult problem to address if rolling around will not jostle the blockage -- then time to whack the top of the spool and take the consequences Look in the bottom, you can just barely see the little pin could also hold (back up with a hammer) the top of the spool and whack the bottom to shear the little pin 1 Quote

Anything else? I do have another PTO unit in a parts 656 and 706 but don't know if either are good. Guess I'll find out Quote
HydroTek Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Was that small hardened flat washer on the spool intact ? -- just under the cup Quote
sandhiller Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 44 minutes ago, HydroTek said: Was that small hardened flat washer on the spool intact ? -- just under the cup I took a pic of everything that came out the top but site won't let me post it There were 3 shims and a smaller half of a washer (broken?) that was at the bottom of it all (under the shims) Quote
HydroTek Posted August 4 Posted August 4 The small hard washer keeps the shoulder of the stem from pushing thru the cup you mentioned the cup was in wrong -- so that may by why the washer is broken maybe the other part is sticking the spool ? So , tapered shim goes in the bottom -- then the other shims -- hard washer on the stem -- cup facing down, then the large spring -- and top cap with seal When the spool is pulled out with the unit on the tractor -- the hard washer will usually lay in the bottom of the shim pack -- but I have seen that **** sideways -- and when the spool is put back in , forced -- breaks the washer 1 Quote

HydroTek Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Jiggle / wiggle / bang on the housing need to get the spool out to figure what is blocking it -- hopefully the housing will not get damaged Maybe if the unit is totally disassembled you may see into the oil passages and find the blockage 1 Quote

Maybe a half inch above the full mark on the dipstick And it helped tremendously Thank you! Still no joy on the PTO spool 1 Quote

The pin that ties the spool to the stem was fine and in place but that small hardened washer that I only found half of was MIA I took the washer out of the parts tractor and put it in my good tractor That's what was wrong the whole time I yarded about 70 bales with the the PTO pump today, cycling the PTO maybe 30+ times just to see if it would fail It did not and I think I can move on Wish I could post pics of the entire spool and stem assy with washer, shims, springs and cups in order and in place But oh well. As a side note, drawbar support was not in the way for the spool to drop out and go back in Thank you again gentlemen for all your help! 2 Quote

At least one half of it did. Still doesnt explain why the damn thing wouldn't come out easily during many attempts. When you buy used, you never know what previous owners did Quote
