9230 Hydraulic pump

Thinking pump is bad in my 9230, no steering, remotes won't lift, checked filter in hyd tank was clean, spin on filter changed looked like oil in it has some metal particles, have to cut open filter and check yet. also need to check one way check valves in line to pump.any tips on source for pump. does caseih have rebuilt ?  have hyd shop rebuild it ?  tips on removal, has front steerig so access from below is very limited, looks like remove tires and work from top.

Filings in the spin-on filter would indicate that perhaps the charge pump for the piston pump has failed. If the charge pump failed, the piston pump will not work very well. Check your charge pressure first.

Thanks for the reply SDman. Checked charge pressure 19-20# at 2200 rpm oil warm but probably should have been warmer. Do have chatter in the pump and lines to filter. Cut filter open see some glitter but not much

How are you checking this pressure? It needs to be checked with the piston pump putting out maximum flow...the charge pump needs to be able to supply MORE flow than what the piston pump consumes. Anything less and the piston pump will suffer in a short amount of time.

connected gauge to test port in the line after the filter and run tractor at rated rpm 2100. steering or remotes not working. tried steering steering no change in charge pressure.

Gotta do the test with the remotes flowing

a hose to connect 2 remotes together works
or run the hose back to the reservoir

if the pump will not flow oil , the damage may already be done

thanks for the replies, case ih tech came out and confirmed the pump is bad, new pump on the way.
