Robert Cooksey Jr Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 We have purchased a 4500B Forklift. We are unsure as to the type of motor that is in it and cannot find the serial number. Does anyone have any information on these? Or have owners or shop manuals to refer to?
td9bcf180 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Not much info. here but it's all that I have from an old brochure.
R190 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Very nice machines for their age . I had a 4500A with the c-157 gas engine and manualĀ shuttle clutch type transmission which I eventually replaced with a 4500B with the D179 diesel and the torque converter type transmission which is in my opinion a lot nicer. Which engine do you have? we have another unit in common I also have an S160 truck.
Binderdan Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 As R190 said, the 4500B was supposed to have the D179 diesel 3 cylinder. The 4500A could have a C-157 gas engine or a D-179 diesel. Although I have seen some early 4500B with the gas engines. The early ones were all manual transmission with a clutch, but the later ones had a torque converter transmission. These forklifts were built on an IH Doncaster built 454, or 474, skid unit(chassis) and converted to a forklift by Harlo. Harlo still makes rough terrain forklifts so mast parts should be available new still. Serial number tag location should be under the fuel tank on the right side of the machine. I have all the books for it. I may share some info if you need it.
