  1. Is there a gasket needed between the rear crankshaft and flywheel on a C301? I see an online advertisement for a rear crankshaft seal kit. Neither the good C301 engine or the bad engine I'm switching out appears to have had any gasket between these parts. Getting ready to bolt the flywheel back on the engine. Thanks everyone.

  3. The cam change is unfortunately another step in the process I guess, darn it.
  4. Thanks for the verification, I have the needed parts for the swap.
  5. I located a 706 gas that's complete but without an engine. May have had a gas C263 previously in it but I do have a C301 gas engine out of a 715 combine. Will this fit/interchange? I know certain parts need swapped/switched, not too worried about that, I've got them. I'm assuming it should work. Thanks.
  6. I found a 301 out of a 715 combine engine also. I have the needed parts off the tractor itself to swap out with the combine engine. The seller is to get it running, hopefully it doesn't smoke like a chimney, etc. Otherwise - I'm out!
  7. The tractor didn't run when I acquired it so I'm not familiar with 301 power as opposed to the 263.......but it makes sense! I'm not worried about the time and effort in the combine engine switch, but I've found out quite a few times buying a non running tractor is the cheap part! Thanks brewcrew.
  8. Thanks for the info DT Fan. Contemplating my options.
  9. Awhile back I posted about my 560 gas having a cracked block with the 301 sleeveless engine. I found a complete 301 out of a 715 combine I may swap with (will overhaul) from what I've read, a few things need changed - timing cover, oil pan, distributor, to name a few. Can someone who's actually made this swap tell me exactly what needs changed? I also located an almost complete 263 (sleeved)out of a 706 which is the original engine cubes to the tractor but it needs overhauled too. Either one will be work and expense but I like the idea of a few more ponies from the 301, just wanting to know what needs done to make it happen. Thanks.
  10. I agree rustred. Probably the route I'll go. Thanks.
  11. Today anyway, I'm thinking I'll re-sleeve it but, that can change. My friend in the machine shop said about $200 to bore & fit the sleeve (sleeve would be extra of course). Another C263 (or 292) could be an option too. I'll never wear out whatever repair/fix I may do - I probably put less than 20 hours/year on whatever I use. Re-sleeving only one cylinder a little smaller than the others must not hurt that much, go to know.
  12. First post on this forum! I bought a non running 61' 560 gas with a C301 engine. Got it to run pretty good but found water in the new oil - an extremely gray mixture. Yuk! I took the head off and found the head gasket was leaking. To make matters worse, #3 cylinder is cracked about midway down about 3". Bummer. My local machine shop guy says he can re-sleeve it if I take the motor out (crank and all). The block mics from 3.813 to 3.818 depending on what cylinder. With a 3-13/16" standard bore, would a sleeve in one cylinder still work if reduced to 3-7/16" or thereabouts? Pretty much all I do with my tractors is plow snow in the driveway 3-4 times a year, blade this or that, or just find an excuse to use it. In a perfect world, I'd like to just put a good used C301 back in it (maybe from an 806 or 715 combine). How does the cylinder sleeve fix sound? Probably the cheapest. I doubt if I'l do much till spring mechanic wise. Thanks for the input everyone.
