Progress report on my 66 I.H. pick-up restoration

Recommended Posts

I tried to send you a pm,  but says you cant?.  I would try calling California truck center in Fresno,  since your motor home is on a F/L chassis.  I'm thinking it likely has F/L ac unit for the driver's area.  Looked at Cali Truck center website,  looks a good place from the outside.  Worked on f/l for last 20yrs,  from what I have seen most rv only dealers are lucky if they could fix a cardboard door.

  Jerry ,

Hang tight I may have one with very few miles on it , to sell you. No credit check, No down,  just hand you the coupons and the keys.

Darn it Love my coach, but this local dealer sucks on service . The refrigerator has not worked from day one, Cab Air conditioning quit working just as we got to the Mojave headed to see my daughter. Mobile eye on dash quit working.  Its been at shop for a month we told them it need to be home by 8/12/17 as of yesterday AM nothing been done  ,they keep telling us waiting on parts.  We called Bob Tiffin the owner of manufacturer in Alabama He was on speaker phone with owner of dealer. Today they say its ready we pick it up at 4:30, half way home Air starts blowing hot in driver compartment again . They say bring back Monday Am and we want to leave Tuesday AM for Rantoul.

Tiffin is suppose to be one of the more reliable ones. But **** if no mechanic looks at that knows what he is doing its not going to fix itself

I have to say though that Bob Tiffin himself has called us three times to make sure its ready and he is rattling their cage but the service department at Paul Everts R.V. is like a Chinese fire drill.

Told them if you F-up my trip You can have coach & Coupon book back. Take me to Court!

Tony - I would be steaming!!!  We've had some issues with the trailer but all has been taken care of by a local dealer that is a warrantee shop for Forest River.  Plus it was only built 70 miles from here in Elkart, Indiana, camper capital of the world.  We've done a half dozen mini trips and so far getting along well.  Going Monday to a local state park for 2 nights.  Will be the first time without sewer and water hookup!  Going to see how conservative  we can be.

Pickup looks awesome Tony! If you head this direction for RPRU and a few years you've got a free place to camp on your way through.

And there's 3 or 4 of us in NW Iowa if you need to stop for lunch the next day!  Or overnight, depending on how hard you push it.  (I sometimes forget that not everyone is a truck driver, they have time to stop and see things rather than keeping the hammer down!)

Tony you better do a Rantoul or bust post like Brady Boy did. Be neat to see some scenery along the route you're taking.

Well Fellas ,I am crossing my fingers that I may have fixed my problem, If I disappear suddenly you'll know what happened.lol.

Been working with B.J. and Sledgehammer on this but it may have been my wife that corrected the problem.

We returned home Tues.5th from HCOP  20 days on road .

Well worth the trip , Show is awesome , I'll post some pictures on coffee shop as time permits.

As for 66 Binder, Upholstery shop texted me a picture of the interior done and wheels on and in their parking lot.

I have Not seen it in person yet .

It will be going back to Rob for final details and prep for DMV being it was purchased out of state and restored in state ,they will be giving me a Colonoscopy along with truck .

Here is the picture that they texted me while I was on road .

I was so frustrated trying to post on here but something kept me from it . Those of you on F.B. have already seen it.

I finally got by the upholstery shop and got some pictures ,not the best , because of close quarters and no sunlight.

Its scheduled to be picked up by Rob for final touch ups etc . Then to DMV.

Thought I would share the pic's I took for myself at this point.

Binder was hauled back to Custom Concepts for odds & ends needing attention.

I have not driven it yet .

Rob is going to store it until my ordered enclosed trailer arrives or the new shed gets done, which should be by end of October.

Passenger door handles may have to be re ordered as originals were misplaced while at upholstery.

I am very pleased with it at this point and very anxious to get her home.

        Todays pictures.
