redneckchevy9
I think I am looking @ the front axle correct? What is that looks welded up or is it something that shouldn't be there.
Nebraska1206
The bolster casting is broken where the axle pivot bolster bolts to the steering bolster. Note the stack of washers in the back

Note the stack of washers in the back I thought thats what those were, but I thought no way someone would use those right? I was wrong
nate
My wallet hurts looking at the work it needs but will be worth it when done. What is its history of why it was parked? Those 1456's are sure a nice tractor to run. Nate
Jeff-C-IL
I've known about the "gold" demonstrators for a long time, but never actually heard much info about them. I'm sure that this info is in a ton of books...which I don't have. So I'll ask here. How many years / which models did IH do the GOLD for? Roughly many units of some of the more popular models (1456, 856, etc) were typically done as demonstrators? What happened to them after the show run was over...were they sold as is or always repainted? Finding one of these hiding under red paint just has to be a IH collectors favorite dream.... SMOKER 1
I've known about the "gold" demonstrators for a long time, but never actually heard much info about them. What happened to them after the show run was over...were they sold as is or always repainted? Finding one of these hiding under red paint just has to be a IH collectors favorite dream.... They were built for 3 or 4 months in the middle of the 1970 run. They were built randomly and no one kept track of the serial numbers (that we know of) Models were 1456, 1026, 826 both hydro and gear drive, 656 standard or Farmall, 544 standard and Farmall. They have turned up in all configurations but it was just those 5 models. They were ordered by dealers for field days and most were turned up a shade. They were supposed to be repainted red before they were retailed. A few slipped through the cracks and those stayed on the dealer's farms. There are a few fakes out there but I don't have a problem with that if the seller says it before the sale. The only absolute true way to prove one is if you have the built sheet that came to the dealer with the tractor, but we all know what happened to that as the build sheets were stuffed in the toolbox. I know a guy that has a build sheet but has no clue where or what happened to the tractor. My 1026 was a local tractor that was repainted red. I had to go to Kansas and get a 1026 to trade the guy, he liked it so much. I'm sure Eason will chime in if I left anything out or got something wrong. On a side note, I drove a 1456 GD at the 1970 Farm Progress Show in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. I was just 20 years old and in skunk heaven! jerry
FarmallFan
656 and 544 were hydro only.
redneckchevy9
Not to side rail the original post, but has anyone ever made a non original model a goldie? Like a 756, etc...
Eason
Some clown in California has been parading around a 544 with a bunch of chrome and chicken lights as a goldie. Eason

Tonyinca
Some clown in California has been parading around a 544 with a bunch of chrome and chicken lights as a goldie. Eason Not sure where he is from but its been at our show several times. He has pictures of it as an abandoned Chysem Ryder(SP) Berry picker tractor ( I think)that was junked and he resurrected it and brought her back as a 544 Goldie. I am not sure if its authentic but my best recollection is that its NOT.I only looked it over once and its been a long time ago.
