DieselSmokeDangerousCurves
Took awhile to read your book Chris but it was worth it. You have done a fine job getting your TD6 up and going again. Your a really good body repair guy also, nice job on the grill and covers and other fabbed items. I have a few things that may make your seat easier to use and will send you better pics the next time I'm by mine. Mine is a 2" X 4" rough cut wooden frame my dad added a bottom and top to to make a tool box, then it has a cushioned seat and back on, works good for my 6' self but might I need to add extensions to the steering handles. ( got the material just no time to do) also my TD6 has no key switch. Instead there is an push on/off switch under the gas diesel lever. When in it is diesel and the switch is turned off by the handle, out is gas. pull the switch to turn on power to the distributor. The starter switch is under the seat on the left side of the seat frame. push button, starter cranks. There is no starter switch like yours on the starter and no handle on the dash. I also start mine while on the ground because my carb choke has no cable on it or in the cockpit. I adjust the choke manually until warm enough to switch to diesel at which time I climb in. I have to get the thermostat, NAPA has the right one and i can get the gaskets from Service Motor Co. here in Stevens Point, WI for around $6, I'll order a spare for you if you want and send it to you. They got 600 at the warehouse.I'll send pics of the starter button when I'm by it again. You visited my post so you know my challenges I got ahead of me but now I can use your post as a great reference tool for most of it. Need to find a bucket lube, but I do have the button grease end which I'll also try to get a pic and part number of for you. Need to find a light brackets, Am going to try to use the light buckets from a Farmall Super Cub I got running for my boss and he bought new ones. I'm guessing you use a vacuum system for tapping. I have 80 buckets yet to wash before spring as well as our evaporator pans, (Dad overcooked the last batch, ugh) Will get you some pics of all that also. Hope all is well, and thanks for the encouragement .
sugarmaker
DSDC, I am good on the gaskets Thanks! And thanks for reading the book! Just what I do and in other areas too. Like Allis Chalmers forum and Maple trader.com too. I dont do face book hardely at all. Probably where I should be but am too lazy to learn. I do have a lot of maple pictures too. Glad to see your making syrup! Good project in the spring. You have a totaly different starting system but sounds like it works well. I like to be able to start them from the cockpit/ in the seat if possible. Dont need any accidents! I like your elevated seat. The low cost lawn mower seat works ok in mine. I have been trying to get better on the body work thing for the past 50 years. Still learning but my skills are acceptable for these tractors not show cars! My TD6 has less than new under carriage and I am not even a judge of how bad it may be? Folks on here have given me suggestions on improvements. I just dont have the shop to tear into it. And as some one mentioned I dont do enough with it to do a full re-furb on the old girl! There are some great resto threads on here about similar dozers. Awesome work these folks do. Looking forward to following along with you! Regards, Chris
DieselSmokeDangerousCurves
Found these pics at an online auction last night from an auctiontime oct auction that must not have happened. A TD6 with parts. Looks like the owner once had the same idea as you Chris to put a rear light on it if you notice the left rear fender bracket. Also nice tow hook assy and now I see how the hood covers look. wonder if it all sold or will be coming up on a future auction there. Also both lights on the front had the screen at 45 deg. https://www-s.hibid.com/catalog/182401/auction-time---wednesday--october-23--2019/? sugarmaker
DSDC, Just dont see the side shields often! Note there are two pieces to each side I think. Get all 4 parts! See if you can get them! In fact buy the whole machine! I dont have the hook either. You must have picked up on my light screen not being at 45 degrees??:) Bugged the heck out of me when I found that! Yes I am going to mount a rear light someday. It did not have one originally on mine but I love lights! Just have to have it! Similar location but I dont have fenders. I do have a skid plate platform in that location. sugarmaker
Folks, I had a chance to see my TD6 tonight. Matt has been dong some work around his sugarhouse and he moved his New Idea picker with it. Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Folks, I talked to Matt where the TD6 resides and he had some news. The TD6 is under his new lean to on which I helped him put up, on the back of his sugarhouse. He also took his picker to the local tractor show grounds and helped the president pick the rest of the corn. He said they had several gravity boxes full of great looking red corn! He said it worked great! Nice to see this old equipment still working! Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Folks, Just checking in! A couple weeks I will have to go to Matt's for the annual firing up of the TD6. Will try to get some pictures too. I did notice that some of my old pictures are not showing up in first pages of this long thread. These were probably photobucket pictures? Merry Christmas to all the forum members! Hope things are good in Red Power land! Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Folks, Happy New Year! All our kids, grandkids and great grandkids were here for Christmas. Our little house was busting at he seams!:) Tree is down and we are hunkered down for this small snow storm. Tomorrow I will be going to help friend Matt work on the TD6. He is threatening to change the hydraulic oil. I am going to supervise. I did get a new phone so I will try to get some pictures. sugarmaker
Folks, Update on the TD6 and some observations: Matt is storing this inside: Drained the old hydraulic oil it was dark and dirty.Filled the tank with 7 gallons of fresh 70 wt hydraulic oil. Out comes Matt with the TD6 Testing the drift down, it was very good and held well, Also let me get a good look at how worn the bucket is. Matt has ideas of replacing portions of the bucket and cutting edge. You can see what happens when I now have a good new phone to take pictures! Dozer started right up all systems seemed to work as they should for a almost 70 year old machine. Thanks for checking in on me. Question: Did these have the second (front) top roller for the track to ride on? Regards, Chris
nomorejohndeere
fix the bucket with the right metal where it contacts the ground........
hardtail
No the TD6's only had one carrier roller mounted further back, the tracks sag a little more and is one of the immediate distinguishing factors between them and TD9's.
louie figone
13 hours ago, sugarmaker said: Question: Did these have the second (front) top roller for the track to ride on? Chris, the five roller track frames have a second top idler, the TD6-61 and 62 series had the five roller track frame as an option, the TD6-62 factory loader had a longer track frame (37 links) than the five roller option (36 links). I am not sure if the older TD6's (4 roller 32 links) had the five roller frame option, I did find a picture of a TD6 with an extended track frame, it may have been shop made, if it was they did a nice job, or they may have put a later five roller frame on it. Picture is pulled off the internet of a TD6 loader with five roller track frame. Also a TD6-62 factory equipped Drott loader. Note how the front top idler bracket is, the TD6 is the same as the regular five roller frame, the factory TD6-62 loader has the bracket reversed. sugarmaker
Thanks guys, I thought to older TD6's had just the back roller. Matt may have replacement coming. Yep the old machines have just a little track sag. Regards, Chris

Seems to be the way lately, the plan is bigger than the pocketbook. Use 55 gallon plastic drum or grandkids plastic pool. wrap the inside with concreatte steel wire mesh two times around the inside for your electrodes . Place your tracks in and let it run. do not rush it, you have patients.
sugarmaker
Hojon, I didnt go back and look but sounds like your referring to electrolysis parts cleaning. Thanks for the reminder. I have a piece that needs cleaning for another tractor. Might fire it up. But should make a smaller tank too. Regards, Chris
DieselSmokeDangerousCurves
I just noticed Chris that you don't have rock guards on your idler or drive gears.my S.N. tells me all the options mine came with.mine. iI still am jealous of your Brush Guard Grill. sugarmaker
Rick, I have the rock guards on the idler, not sure if they were on the drive sprockets? If it did they were gone when I got it. That grill guard was heavily damaged/ caved in when I found the tractor. Also some how the sheet metal grill had seen better days too. I have no idea how that happened behind that heavy guard? Your tracks and rails look to be in way better shape than mine! I need the oil bath portion, metal cup, at the bottom. I have no clue where it went in the 60 years this was used? May have been stolen? Regards, Chris I brazed mine. Oil and moisture lets the bottom rot. Thin tin not robust cast metal. And mason jars work.
sugarmaker
Hojon, I think the stainless dog dish is still working as the bottom for the air box. sugarmaker
Folks, Very quiet here. waiting for warmer weather and the trees to let the sap flow. Syrup season is here in North west Pennsylvania. We have set 600 taps and made 50+ gallons of very nice Golden Delicate maple syrup. I spoke with Matt about the TD6 bucket rebuild. We would like to do that this spring, after syrup season. Hoping he will haul the TD6 to the local show grounds for display this summer too. I really need to think about a heavier trailer. sugarmaker
Folks, I visited Matt while he was making syrup a few days ago and the TD6 is right there standing ready, Matt on his Allis D14 at his sugarhouse. Grandson Nic and his two boys, Cooper and Rhett cooking hot dogs in the maple syrup arch at our sugarhouse. We are making some awesome syrup this season. Golden Delicate which has been given the name FIRE & ICE syrup. Due to the cold weather freezing the sap and the roaring fire to make it into almost clear syrup Just like My Great grandfather made a hundred years ago. Also marshmellows dont take long to cook. Hope things are good in RED land! Regards, Chris

sugarmaker
Rawleigh, Folks, Yes you can! Please pm me. I know we are not supposed to sell things on here I understand that. We have made almost 100 gallons of delicious syrup branded as FIRE & ICE due to the way we have made it during the cold weather this year! Here is what it looks like towards the sugarhouse today. Off to help tap some trees with a friend tomorrow too. Much more and would have to get Matt to bring the TD6 home! Regards, Chris
