hank1010
Hey Chris, I am having some issues with my starter. More specifically the starter bendex. Do you by chance have a picture that end of your starter, before you installed it?
sugarmaker
Hank, I have a pile of pictures, not sure if I have that shot. If I do it should be posted in here. Might be back a year or so? I also seen KoO on the forum yesterday. He may have a picture too? Knock on wood! My starter worked real good today. Folks, I did some work with the 6 filling some holes where I had stumps removed. This was not a large project, couple hours total, the TD6 did a good job of moving some dirt, and back scraping it fairly level. Temp came right up to the low end of the RUN temp on the gage and stayed there. Thermostat seems to be working good and I did not have any burp out at the neck of the rad so that farmer fix seems to be ok for now too. Thanks for checking on me! exSW
Chris, how did you resolve your slack adjuster issue?
sugarmaker
exSW, I moved the idler forwards and inserted a spacer ring to take up the gap. About 1 inch spacer was required on the left side and the right side actually moved and I used the original threaded adjuster to move that side about 1/2 inch. The tracks are considerably better than they were for tightness. It was a farmer fix. My Uncle Jack (previous owner) would have been proud of me!:) Was just thinking. That has been a year ago and one back surgery already! Wow time flies! Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Folks, Lazy this week! Its our local fair week. I moved 4 tractors to the fair yesterday. I don't have enough trailer to haul the TD6 so it sets at home. Weather is dark and dreary today. Supposed to get nicer for remainder of week. TD6 sets waiting for some work or attention. May try to start it just to see how it does. Been a couple years with this tractor now. The folks on here have sure helped me get through some basic maintenance work on it. Could not have got to this point with out your help! THANKS! I may have mentioned but I am currently working on a refurb, clean and paint of a off color WD45. That has kept me busy and broke all summer and will be completed next year hopefully. Thanks for checking in on me too. Regards, Chris
north of 60
Hi Chris, Enjoy reading your posts ... and watching and hearing about your progress on your TD6... Replaced a bottom roller on my TD9 yesterday... I managed to find a couple decent rollers at Brown International for $100.00 apiece.. Would like to see pics of the tractors you took to the fair.. sugarmaker
Grant, Folks, May not be the best pictures. The sun was just setting and made a lot of weird shadows! These are the tractors we took to the Albion (PA) 1953 Ford Jubliee, starting to look used because we are using it to brushhog the daughters property. This was my first large tractor purchase about 4 years ago. Was restored about 10 years ago by previous owners. Next is my grandson Nic's 1950 Allis WD. This was his grandfathers, my dads first Allis on the farm. I did a refurb clean and paint a couple years ago. It was very rough when I bought it from a family member who had farmed with it since the early 70's This 1950 Allis WD came from the same Uncle that had my dads narrow front WD. I did the refurb, clean and paint just prior to the other WD. It was very worn in all areas! I purchased this 1958 Allis D17 about 2 years ago at a local auction. Did some minor fixes. It has been a good tractor. I like to pull this one. Still in its work clothes it has had one paint job in its life. Wrong decals and wrong color grill. This 1950 WD is my friend Gary's pulling tractor. We will be pulling all these at the fair on Friday and or Saturday. I am hoping Nic pulls all of mine too. I will be helping hook or flag. sugarmaker
Folks, I havent updated for a while. Time moves right along. Hope things are good in Red land! The grandson did real good at the local fair and placed in 6 of the 8 pulls he entered. Two firsts, Two seconds, a third and a fourth place! The TD6 is tarped and ready for winter. I would like to get it out one more time before the snow flies, but am going to have to hurry as the weather is turning colder. Might be a good test for the starter and new cables. Just brought the Allis WD45 frame into the garage for work (refurb clean and paint), during the winter. Considering a old Ford truck as a possible next project. Tanker916
Awesome man glad to see you are hopelessly hooked on restored machines. Join me in darned vile and start working on the Ford but make sure its bigger than the trucks other people do so parts will be extra hard to find and truly give you the joy of part hunting. Tanker, Well now that you mention it there is a ex firetruck (cab and frame only), that would just fit that bill! I know you have a big Chevy in the future plans too. I also looked at a 56 and a 55 Ford pickup that need everything! This fire truck would be of similar size as your Chevy. Its a 1956 Ford F-800 Big Job. Dayton wheels and all the big heavy stuff!! I just don't know what I would do with it when I got it done??? OK wait, I have way too many big toys now that I just play with! It would just be another part of the collection addiction. Oh yes it would be a joy finding parts for a old Lincoln truck engine! I will think about it! Thanks for the gentle push! Regards, Chris

sugarmaker
Tanker, I don't need much of a push to get into trouble oh evil one on my shoulder! I guess I had not thought about hauling other old stuff to shows, but that could be a excuse to acquire another project. By the way how are you doing on your big Chevy truck? Do you plan a full body off restoration? Regards, Chris
Tanker916
Eventually yes, near term goal is to get it running so my grandpa can drive it around after that I will do a ls swap and really go to town on it.
sugarmaker
Folks, Winter seems to have begun its grip in our neck of the woods. Another gray day, but I feel thankful we are not washed away, or on fire like some of our members in Florida or California! (FYI Erie did get 6 to 10 inches of snow on last Saturday!) We just finished up archery season in PA. Seems like I have been hunting for a month, wait I have been!:) Looking forward to the first day of buck hunting with the '06, the Monday after Thanksgiving! Last year I barely made it out due to back surgery! Dang I am glad I had that done! Hope things are good! Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Red Power Folks, Deer season in PA everything stops and waits!:) Regards, Chris
sugarmaker
Folks, Just reporting in. Deer season lingers on into muzzelloader, We hunted a couple small drive yesterday and today and saw two deer and a coyote. Not bad for two old men a smoke pole and a slingshot. Here is what happened in rifle season. A lot of this, Followed by this. Me and my trophy. This is a real nice typical PA buck (9 point) taken with Rem 7600 in cal. 30.06. Many thanks to Daughter Kelly for allowing the old man to hunt her farm! With me feeling a year older today I thought it was appropriate to go out and test me and the TD6. Have put a bunch of money and work into the electrical system. So put some gas in it. and it started right up. Temp was at 32 F. Bendix kicked out when it tried to start. Never did that before but this starter rebuild is fresh. Switched over to diesel easy after a minute or two on gas. Untarped it and it was pretty clean. Since me and the TD6 are almost the same age I am not sure which one looks better? Both are pretty rough!:) Added a snort of Sentry to the fuel. Proceeded to back drag the drive to fill in some pot holes. Went through all the gears and the steering clutches and brakes worked good. It never came up to RUN temp but I only had it running for maybe 40 minutes. and it wasnt really doing any work. Got the big chunks off the tracks and put it back up on blocks. I have another project for it in the near future. The ditch in front of the house needs the leaves removed. Might work good to fork them into the bucket and then dump them somewhere. Thanks for checking on me! Hope things are good in Red land! Regards, Chris

north of 60
Good to hear from you SM, always enjoy your posts ... Nice deer... had a couple nice Whitetail bucks on my place this fall... only got out hunting a couple days, so didn’t get one ... they might be bigger next year ??... I’m mostly a meat rather than trophy hunter anymore, but wouldn’t pass up a real nice trophy for a head mount ... Glad you got to run the TD6 and it worked well for you... had my TD9 fired up the other day to clean up some blow down on trails for sledding and for the team and sleigh... I just can’t get enough of that, any excuse to use it will do ! I told my wife I think there are only a couple things a grown boy would enjoy more than that, lol.. north of 60
I didn’t go back through your posts Chris to see what you eventually did for a thermostat ... but if your thermostat is functioning properly, the coolant temp should get into the “run” zone fairly quickly, like in a few minutes ... Possible it is reaching “run” temps, but your sending unit or temp gauge are not working quite right ??? I have a 180 degree thermostat in the TD9, and it is up to that temp in a few minutes from startup..
sugarmaker
North, Folks, Thanks on the buck. I said trophy but in reality those horns got cut off and are hanging in the building! It will have to be a really nice buck for me to spend the $500 for a shoulder mount! My son and grandson have some really nice big racks. Like you I am more of a meat hunter. Been hunting 50 plus years and this may be the most points I have ever gotten on a PA buck. I made some Kielbasi and venison jerky which was a big hit with the family. I should be hunting right now but resting after a morning with me working and the TD6 watching and laughing! It got light duty today, Started well (I got to thinking, dangerous I know, This doesn't have a bendix. it made the same whirring sound this morning on the first engagement of the starter?) Anyway it started ok and we headed out to the front yard to make some nice ruts in the soft ground! For the wife and neighbors to laugh at. And for me to bump over this summer. I forked the leaves out of the ditch and the TD6 did the work of hauling and dumping them. Yea just about like a kid and a big toy! The three trunked Ash tree (behind the dozer) is dying and is going to have to come down in the near future! We have lost a bunch of maples and now the ash are not in good shape. Had three full buckets of leaves. It just laughed, as it has never had to do leaves, in its life! So we have some good tracks in the yard too!:) Some day when I run out of things to do I want to run a good stiff 3 x 3 angle iron across the top edge of that bucket to straighten it up a bit, Just might show a little better. Temp just got to the edge of the RUN area of the gage. It did come up, so it may very well be the gage? It also was only setting and idling. I think the new thermostat is working ok. After a lot of hours playing with this tractor I am finally getting comfortable with the old girl and how it basically works. Power washed the undercarriage and back up on blocks! I would like to see pictures of your team and sleigh too! Some days I miss having horses. I know how much work they are too.
