He called his buddy and the had it up off its side when I showed up. I requested they stop while I recorded the moment.

Its back on its tracks now, we are letting it sit overnight for fluids to get back where they belong.

Few locals are up there on Cooper RIver.   I aint a big fisherman....something about patience.....but at least you get good food vs. trout or what not.  Whats that Smoker?  Traeger?  Late June and still no BBQ here.  Gas one is doa.  Not sure if I wanna treager or ?.  Or get a Weber higher end gas one for sheer convenience.

Nothing fancy for a smoker, just a cheap Oklahoma Joe from Lowes

Maybe in a few years I will look at a Traeger

you get the tiller home yet?  Or is it still to wet?

Has been wet, and I've been busy.  Hope to get it this weekend.  Chief said we could use his skidsteer Saturday so I hope he remembered and has the time still.

Well We let it sit overnight, checked it out this afternoon and got back to work.  Things were going great, I finished loading another load of logs for my FIL, and was  leveling a few things out

BANG.

and the boom was loose, this machine has a pivot for swinging the boom seperate from the house, the cylinder controlling this pivot let loose.

found out that the bolt that passes through the piston and into the rod had backed out until it came apart, the good news is I think we can just put a new bolt in and away we go.  It was pretty obvious someone had been inside it before.

Loc-tite this time

You own this machine?   I have a little IHI mini ex, but no enclosed cab on that one, just a cage and roof.

Hopefully a bolt is all you need!

Looks like Tuesday is going to be the planned day to get that tiller.   We're a bit thin on fire dept coverage this weekend so don't really need myself and the chief to both be on the edge of district doing something that time consuming until more people are around.

Owned by a close family friend.  Our un-related uncle.  I will trade home some maintenance for use.

and a bolt and a tap were all it took.  Working like a charm

It's great to be able to work things out like that.   Was he the one operating it when it went tippy?

Got the new drum mower unfolded today, will do a little test cutting tomorrow probably.  Forecast changed though so rain is a lot more likely next week so won't do very much.   Just need to go ahead and get stuff tested at least so when I have a good window I can do a lot of cutting.

Yep, he was driving when it went over, and to be fair him and his buddy almost had it on its feet when I got there.  He was a bit more cautious today, go figure.

so here is the skinny on the hydraulic ram.  It had a 3-1/2 inch long bolt that backed out until it came apart.  A 4 inch bolt was two threads to long.  So I ran the tap in and got two more turns out of it.   I think that when someone else was in there they didn't have the 3/4 inch fine tap so they made do with a shorter bolt.

Its together now, and it has loc-tite.  It should outlast the owner

Sounds like something you'd have to go to a fastener specialty shop for.    They usually have shorter shoulder bolts and will have full thread bolts.  Sounds like you got it handled though.

I was just thinking if it was going to go over, best that the owner of the machine was the one who did it, less chance of hard feelings that way!    Those machines are really capable, but it can be hard to tell on a rig like that when you get too close to the edge of the capabilities.

I think I will spend some wrenching on this one.   His was a dealer rental, now it has a few quirks.   Biggest thing is two of the grease zerks are not standard.  And now missing.  So I need to find something to fit, and they are bigger than 1/8 pipe, but it just about is the same size, so I need to get that figured out.  I have been really greasing it and it's coming around,  I swear they thought it had been done at the factory so it was good.  But all the pins are tight and the meter only shows 1800 hours

Spent some time this morning changing the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter.   Man was it due.   Hydraulics are tomorrow,

Maybe, but the others are SAE.   I was looking at the pipe size charts last night, I think it had 1/8 NPT and they got buggered up so they drill & tapped them to 1/4 NPT, there is only about a 1/16" difference, so that is today's errand

Ran up the line for a repair, and they had some musk of near the road, pretty amazing considering they were exterminated in Alaska not so long ago

I have been in Fairbanks the last couple days with the Motorhome group, thought about offering to buy your breakfast if you hade time. Having daylight all the time has my sleep clock mixed up.

Leaving for Denali in the morning, love your State. Have a good one,
