Love those Metro vans. The garage scene from West Side Story has quite a few. We owned one as our airport work van when we had the avionics shop, a later square bodied one called the Metro Mite. It had a British engine and 4 speed column shifter.

Got projects lined up for the forge?

Mainly my kids do, but that’s better than anything for me, and it gets them off the fricken screens

there are a couple metros around here,  they sure seem neat.  I need a plumbing van but that looks like a lot of work when I could be making money.

AK, we traveled your state 2.5 months summer of 2010 with our RV. What a great trip. Everyone should try to do it at least once.

We have many pictures and good memories.

Here is one pic being it is the season. Sure you know the place.

I was there. Right there. And they didn't even offer me a job! My Grandaughter and I.

Lol.  Oh yeah, know the place well.  I live in the hills north of fairbanks. Looks like you had a good resume for the job, but from the lack of white stuff in the back ground your timing may have been off?

We are making a ribbon blower for each boy.  Probably to much but what the heck, it’s welding.

one boy wants to cast metal, including bronze,  the other wants to work a knife like forged in fire.  Sure.  Let’s try

I don’t think you can go wrong with a ribbon burner. Great heat, fairly easy to produce vs Venturi style burners.  I learned to give mine plenty of air. Had to buy a larger blower after I started my build. Another key I found was a rheostat for adjusting the blower. That way you can tune the air you need infinitely. It’s a bit like adjusting a carburetor when trying to get maximum heat. Between a needle valve for the propane, speed of the blower, and the gauge to feed the propane there is a LOT of variables. I had to ditch the gas grill regulator for a torch style propane regulator because mine was freezing solid at the volume of propane I was pushing. (6-8psi) At the same time I swapped the grill bottle for a larger propane tank. I feel like this helped to keep the freezing problems more to a minimum also.  I will add this link which I probably have done before of my forge.  Do your own thing for sure but maybe the layout will give you ideas.  I don’t care about # of views but I didn’t have anything to help me do mine.  That would have saved me some time and money with mistakes and questions that no one could really answer.

Haha. Yup, the middle of July. I was visiting my Daughter and her ARMY husband in Fairbanks in 2014. My son-in-law's office at Ft. Wainwright. He is retired now.

Here's an AN 124 with its big brother, the one and only AN 225, crossing paths in Anchorage. AN 124s are fairly regular visitors to Pease; the AN 225 has been there once that I know of. I've seen it in various places around the world as it's the most capable cargo plane there is.

Busy couple weeks. Came back from out of town.  My wife had scheduled us to take out son out for his birthday. We went axe throwing and to the drive in

Yeah but since its dry and warm in the W usa the whole world must be.... no?

That ax throwing.... i frankly am not sure i get it.  Buddy bought set online and we did some other evening.  Seems a good way to get 2nd degree assaults. Just add booze.

Few ax throwing bars near now.  Ax...is a loose term for those things

I rolled my eyes, but then we had fun.  Guy was nice and taught the kids how.  I wouldn’t have chosen it, but we might go back

adding alcohol?  That seems like a good way to be called stumpy

Yeah its not like no fun.  Would i pay the $70/hr they charge at the bar?  No.

But having a bar in the city with skinny jean types tossing, limp wristedly, mini axes sure sounds like a bad idea.  I was hoping they were like viking axes.  If a viking is a cabbage patch doll size then be i suppose.

We got 8 people for an hour for $100, and had a half hour of instruction before they started the time.

been a cold spring, finally staying in the 50’s at night. Really hurt the flowers and everything is about three weeks behind here.  If they don’t get a late fall things will not be good

Thats no crazy then for a evening out

I was thinking  of you other day!  Peonies on corner seem to look great.  Dry weather?   Last season looked raggedy compared to now.  Lots of color and customers there now

I had the same thoughts as you. Sharp things + alcohol = bad idea. I hear that there are places about an hour from here you can do that but I haven’t been.  I know from making things that the big bearded Viking style axes won’t fly that well. A tomahawk flies better than an axe but throwing one is all about distance from your target.  With the mental capability of some people today, I’m not sure I would even want to watch axe throwing. I will stick to making kindling with my hatchet. I threw the last tomahawk I made once to see if it would stick and quit while I was ahead ?

I can see where varying the distance will mess it up.  We had a set line and still had a poor average

axes were dirt simple, but it’s all you need i guess
