Lost 10 this week.  Been temping them 2x a day.  If we treat with excede they are responding.  All doa are ones we didnt catch in time.  Inforce vacc still needed for about 90.  Treated 113 so far of 240.  You who buy Excede know how much per dose it is....  We wanted out of uncles since it was such a pita and now we are getting this.  Shipping fever on steroids.  Vet says hes never seen such a strong hit esp since they moved 4 miles.  Same feed, people etc.  So much Worse, i hate cows dying.  Makes you sick since they are in your care and you missed something.

Dang pige.....swan.  If you look at its rt wing you can see the burn.  They cross short wires and trip fuses.  Last year (or 2 ago) had 2 bald eagles with in a mile of farm do it.  Friend told me to breast it out.   Ehhh...coyotos have it mia by morning.

Snow geese are about 2x size of duck id say.  The swan was prob 15 to 20#.  The eagle last year was 40#, i had to pick it up for evidence for power co.  They bag and ship to a lab to determine cause of death.  The 5 people who seen it out thier window dont count.

Sorry for all your troubles Troy.  Hope what ever is going on doesn't spread to your herd.  What about the ones that went to Ca.  Any word from there?  I know they are not your concern but may be informational.  Hang in there.

Totally fine....broker called guy in AB where they went.  We had very stagnant air warnings most of last week.  Vet thinks stress of move here and lack of vaccination program ( susceptible to bvd, bvr, lepto, pastuella, etc) combined with stale air made perfect storm.  I even started cooling fans wed just to move air,  and opened cutains some and every door.  Broker says the Ca broker whom moved cows alwaaayys gives cows Inforce to boost immunity and a Cattlemaster variant when thy get to where the go to cover his tail.  Wish I would of know that.  Thank goodness they are here I guess, uncle has no where to lock up cows.  And since we we not there all the time they would of really died off.  Few who have been only here are sick too so not just the 2x move ones.  They all had weak immune systems.  We sure regret this deal.  Could of just slowly added on some cheap springers and not touched our line with the bank.  On paper it looked fine and only be a pain for a few months till robots were going.  Now....1500/hd...23 dead, few more prob wont make it.  20% prob culled in next 3 weeks after med out, and this set will never be as good as they could of been.

Just went out, they cleaned up their feed already!  Good sign they are eating again!  Gave em 5-600# of dry Alf to get till morning.  Lots got up to eat so good sign as well.

Well sunday wasnt as fun.  Lost 4, 3 today.  2 in pen .....not sure why keeping them.  Retreated few.  Couple more are wait n see.  Vet is sure now its BVRD (bovine viral respiratory disease) not simple pneumonia.  You know the disease that a $2 vacc shot would of fixed?  Should of got more info and we could of gave vacc before moving them.  7 have air under skin from pin holes in lungs from damage.  They should make it but prob wait for meds to clear and ship them if they look better.

In pos news.....hard to find....we finally are using the small gift from grandmas estate and going to take kids to Disneyland.  Spring break, man Walt is proud of his stuff.  Also we used our air miles and pulled "customer" card to get dad a trip to The World Ag Expo in Feb.  Going with his brother in law who farms S of us few miles.  Gift for doing 50hr a week lately.  Uncle wanted to be home thur so Monday night to thur morning.  Hope they can catch Tony but time will be tight.  2 days can hardly see show and banker has dinner thing for them one night.  Grain co takes all local guys out 1 other night also.  He was excited so we did what we wanted.  I cant wait for trip frankly.....get away for few days.  Fell 10yrs older in last 21 days.

Well...5 days, page 4.  I noticed i was #2 poster...kinda embarassed.  Too easy to look on my phone.

Well...have lost 40 now.  Picked 5 to cull wed when meds clear.  8 have weird mastitis..waiting for cultures.  Vet is worried and thinks they were shorted min and vit so immune systems are 0.  3 dry cows this weekend just up n died.  He die neocropscy on 1.  Lungs...like raspberry jam.  Worse hes seen.

Went to get grass we hoped to buy from neighbor (where we move dry cows too) took honest 3 truck loads of spoilage to get half load of feedable feed.  Knew it was dry but 45% and alot of pockets of mold.  Found another buyer for it.  Be fine for heifers...maybe.  Might get better when in 20 more ft but i cannot afford the risk.  Weather straightened out some.  Wind S then N the 40s then rain then sun.  Normal.  3 weeks till feb 14....99% of decent weather from there on out.  Hoping....

Found some random pics to share.  Then i think pour a Pendleton n 7.

1. Uncle beeeaatttt 784 OEM radio.

2. Some ice 5 days after storm

3. Hard to see....17 bald eagles

4. Case of Excede.... $240 a bottle iirc

5. Since we had nothing else to do.  Using the MX170 to pour cement.  Too muddy to get truck closer.  Brothers new shop/barn project.

43 loss.  Culled near 20 and have 18 in a seperate barn off farm  (just new cows) waiting for antibiotics to clear.  Had a + Mycoplasma test Monday.  Gut sinking.  Started culling every one with any hardness or flakes.  Not worth risk with myco.  Made sure guys had fear of God in them about cleanliness.  It spreads in parlor not barn.  Did inline samples of all 6 pens on friday and spent $ for 5hr results instead of 3 day.  All NEG!  Praise the Lord!!  Havw about 100 cow samples still in to be sure sure but what a relief.  My friend lost 330 cows to myco couple years ago.  Vet was terrified too.  Praying the drama with rhis herd is over.

Took afternoon to tour some dairies across the line for annual tour day.  Nice to be away.

6 GEA units, 300hd all new facility.  Amazing

Lely remodel....30 robots.  $$$$

Another of.GEA barn

..and back to reality friday am....tub is shot and screws are more wore than dreamt.  Replacement...80k

Our mixer is close to that shape. Our Kuhn Knight one is actually only a backup right now and we put the Triolet back to the primary one.

I hope you can weather this storm.

We had bought some myco in the late '90s. It was no fun to put it mildly

I have no idea what really your going through but it sounds tough.  All you can do it wait it out and handle things one at a time.  So just because I’m kind of confused. Are these your original herd or a new one you bought. Are these cows for the robots you were planning on installing? Just trying to grasp your situation.

Just remember. It will get better

This is the other brand of robots locally.  In Canada Lelys had pushed very hard and sold 50 plus in few years.  We would do DeLaval ones for dealer support and owner reviews.  But, the robot plans are on hold.  Finance co is dragging feet.  And now do we want any debt?  We may need a new mixer, prices wont allow for the construction cost now.  Just everything has fell apart plan wise from 8 weeks ago.

Yes all purchased cows are problems.  They had clean test and looked good.  But moving was too much.  Young or old they did not do well.  The remaining are looking alot better now.  Praying it's over and they start milking better now.

Still lost few this week, culled b/c now lungers or showing mast and with myco you do mess around.   Bought 240 cows, 45 died, 45 sold so far...in 5 weeks.  We got his hfr program too.  Going to sell it.   No cows to pay for them to be fed.  We have alot of our own coming in too.  Talkwd with 4 or 5 other local dairymen this week...all conversations ended with cracking voices and lonf pauses.  Price is way to low, store price is same...no one cares.  Looking at all options.  Never thought we'd be there.  2 year future prices are below breakeven here even.

Pray for the dairy industry.

We will pray for you and the rest of the dairys, and we have been buying Darigold milk (5 gallons a week at least) then cheese, yougurt, sour cream, and cottage cheese.  So the boys and me are sure doing our part

We just had our winter ag show. My wife was able to get up there and she mentioned that ALL dairy farmers were talking of selling in the spring if not before. Not looking promising for dairy🙏

X2..... I think we as farmers have to work way too hard to get where we are today!  Then we have to work even harder just to survive and keep what we have for the future!!

For sure....

Still have myco cow.  Waiting for cultures tomorrow. ...ugh

Before we decided to just reline and get new screws for the mixer ($15k!) We demo these.  $84k for mixer an $115k for tractor.  Mixed very good.  These new kubotas are reaaaallly nice.  Super quiet, and easy to operate.  On rd was kinda bumpy though.  Michelin tire all around.  Sales man just brought whole shebang out since easy.
