gonzo 1066 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 One of our friends had a 44 Special. I plowed with it and thought it was a good tractor. Never had much use for the rest of the OFF red tractors.
tcmtech Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I have been really impressed with our MF 2745! BIg quiet cab with great AC and heater (Once I fixed and reworked them) plus the sound system I put in is great too! Beats cutting hay with the 560 and moving snow with the M any day!
mtanut Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I have a TO 20 and a 1958 TO 35. The 35 is a handy size, live PTO power steering, but it's a debate to keep putting money in it or find something newer with more HP. The 20 was paps and it was his first tractor so it's currently waiting in the shed for a restoration.

I'd plugged a 10" auger with 32 % corn and the little MF was the only thing with a "ground drive PTO". Put her on blocks and in reverse and augered the corn back down. The little fellow is my lawn mower on most days....it got a new set of turf tires last year
TP from Central PA Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Rather would forget all my "MF" experiences..............And in the famous words of Boog, "M-F did not stand for Mighty Fine either"............My pap's clan bought IH up until the 4/560 then jumped ship to MF..............Didn't come back to IH until probably 25 years back with a 544 and then later a 826. After the 826 I think they realized the "M-F" experience was a forgetable one as well. I will say Massey's like their 180, 165, 275, etc were ok tractors, but I'd rather have something better than OK myself. To me atleast, compare say the 275 to a 784 IH and it was amazing how BAD the massey really was.
dumbfarmer Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 ive ran some masseys they were ok, 1100, 1135, 2705, 3650 for a "newer" one. its all what you get used to i guess. i love the sound of a 354 perkins turboed they are a great engine. we had one in a 750 massey combine it would really smoke

The old Super 90 is a real chore horse around the farm with that front end loader that will lift almost anything and the legendary economy and reliability of the Perkins diesel. The low, rear mount platform is great for quick and easy access. Plenty fast road gear and a very slow first and reverse gears. My brother's 1085 is just a newer, slightly bigger version. Great baling tractor with that multi power drive.

If it did I bet the sheriff is still looking for you. :D I always thought they were good looking tractors (1100 and 1130) I didn't like the next series (1135 1105) near as well.
49coopE3 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Would like to get a MH 44 diesel one day, but would settle for a gas model. I also like the MF 180. MF tractors are ok, we have a MF 492 as our main tillage tractor, it does the job but just doesn't have all of the bells and whistles that JD or CaseIH tractors have.
Brady Boy Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Spent some time working ground on a 63? Super 90 of an Uncle's. I also played on his Deluxe 35, enjoyed the multi-power. I enjoy spending time on nearly any tractor, but I don't have any passion for the "other" red tractors. BK

MTO Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Helped neighbor who was all MF. He chopped silage with 1105 which I never sat on but I was wagon jocky with a 165. I thot that I was in heaven with that "Multi-Power" lever.

coffeecreek Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Ok I'll play Always have a yard full of 30-50 hp tractors . All have been good for a particular use . Some good for more than one . Only brand I haven't had was JD . Just can't quite do it ( plus the price is always out of line ) Of the MF I have , the ugliest ( somebody painted it blue ) and best is a MF 35 , perkins 3cyl diesel , with power steering and multi power . Never gets much maint , not house broke , and always starts no matter what . It's too light for some things , and not good for a loader . The worst was a TO 35 4 cyl English diesel . Spent lots of hours on it and quite a bit of cash .( last tottal rebuild and paint I'll ever do ) Hate'd it with a passion , was so glad to see it leave .
DRIOTT Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 The family farm was 2- 250 acre farms split by about 4-5 miles of road travel. over the years we had IH, Ford, Fordson Major, Massey Harris and John Deere. One of the most fun tractors we had wa a Massey 44 Special Diesel, wide front. we always fought over who was driving the old Massey pulling machinery or wagons from farm to farm as this was the fastest of all the tractors. Now that I would love to find one again, I gather this must have been a rare tractor. I see 44's, or 44 specials or 44 diesels but not the 44 Special Diesel WF
