But I don't really know by 1960 when I can say more for sure it was not that common anymore. But the one my dad used was a 4x4 with a 2x4 on top to sit on ,one legged. I used a 5 gallon herbicide bucket as a handy milking stool. Probably not the best choice but it worked. And here is a vintage ad from April of 1938 featuring an Oliver 80 tractor.
