Ralph:  That photo of the Farmall H cultivating corn is on the 1939 introductory video for the Farmall A, H and M. Just go to Google to see it.

I think it's in the sales brochure for the A I have

I searched a bit on google for that image but could not find one like it. All I have is the original that I scanned from a Canadian Farm Equipment dealer magazine from 1949.

Here is another from 1949.

Go to "YOU TUBE". Then search for "FARMALL M H 1930's SALES VIDEO" by mxman84. It is there and is one of my favorites.

Acem----

Was thinking-------I have never seen an Oliver combine cutting Rice;  then realized-------out of all the combines I have seen-----don't remember ever seeing an Oliver combine.  Used to see alot of Oliver 1850-----1950 series tractors down this way.

Good ad for Rice Farming magazine.  I used to know the editor/publisher of Rice Farming and Cotton Farming magazines (sister publications) when they were first starting up.  Both good quality magazines.

Oxen? How do you mow with oxen?

Oxen or even cows were used when you didn't have any horses or the farm was to small to have horses. It is possible to mow with oxen saw a videos on youtube and also on a photo from a museum (I need to find it again). In the following pic a cow pulls a AEBI single horse mower with 1.5 - 2 hp engine436509239_ucfilm052.thumb.JPG.56e62b2ec8f06a3786e6db866b451d95.JPG

Our neighbor had a white combine and they harvested rice with it for years. I think it harvested our rice a couple times  (dad didn't have a combine back then). The white combine was a newer version of the oliver. Even though it was a 'white' I think it was painted red. Thx-Ace

Yes, later model Olivers were the same as White (Cockshutt). But back in 1960 they were their own unique machine as seen in this ad. We did not see many Olivers here. The only combine I recall was one in a local demolition derby in 1988.

Interesting, I never knew Hanomag  made tractors, I thought they made construction equipment, if it's the same company?

yup same company, Hanomag started making tractors in 1912 (Self propelled Plows) then in 1919 they started making a crawler tractor and in 1924 their first official tractor rolled off the line. Hanomag was one of the top selling tractors in Germany but around the 50s they made two stroke diesels for there Small tractors (which went into production to fast) and it damaged there good name. In 1971 the last tractor rolled off the line.
