not saying you are wrong but I have lived 15 minutes from Woodstock all my life and never heard of a Walker factory in Woodstock. may well have been one before I knew about those things

Tenneco owns Walker and there is a plant in  nearby Cambridge. Walker is the most common name in replacement exhaust here

From what I remember, Walker started the plant at Woodstock somewhere about 1972 and they produced mufflers for IH in the 1972 to 1978 period. My original 966 and 686 mufflers  had made in Canada on them. I replaced the 686 one in 1980 and it did not have Made in Canada on it. I replaced the one on my 966 in about 1983 and it did not have Made in Canada on it either. I suspect the plant in Woodstock was a short lived venture over about 6 years. Yes, I know Walker is now in Cambridge. I do remember being told back then they were in Woodstock, but you may be right or it was moved to Cambridge somewhere around 1979. It would be interesting to know what happened. Similarly, I remember Timberjack being in Woodstock but after Deere bought them in the 1980's they disappeared. The reporters in the news media reported at the time that production was transferred  to a plant JD owned in the US Midwest.

John Deere purchased Timberjack in 2000 and moved it a few years later. My friend's BIL was an engineer at Timberjack and he went with them.

Timberjack  bought Koehring-Waterous ( Brantford) in the 1980s and eventually moved that production to Woodstock.

Tigercat is doing very well and I wonder when a big company buys them out. It never fails when a Canadian company does well the big boys buy them . Too bad we didn't have a leader who would fight for our companies

I will ask a neighbor who was a tool and die maker at Standard Tube in the 70s &80s about a Woodstock Walker plant

I realize this is about adds but I will post a link to a couple articles in the delta farm press. One discusses adds in th 40s to 60s, including some classifieds. The other discusses changes in ag since they started publication in 46. The first picture is a second generation ih cotton picker. They also discuss flame cultivators. Thx-Ace

Loadstar, I like looking at the different kinds of tractors being compared in ads, especially in action. I have two IH films on two different DVD's on is from 1964 comparing the JD 4020 and IH 806 in Illinois in the field with 5-bottom, the other is from 1976 of the IH control center on the 86 series and JD's sound-gaurd cab both are interesting to watch IMO.

My grandfather had one of this milking machines back in the mid 50s. He was the first in Bettwiesen Switzerland that bought a milking machine, soon after that the neighbors came by and looked at it and bought a milking machine soon after too.

Thanks, bitty. Yes, that was the name of the company. Walker Mufflers were common here. Don't know who owns them now..

Tenneco, still under Walker exhaust name.

No, I have not run out of vintage ads. Been a bit busy planting crops, etc. lately. So here is something right on the theme of crop planting. These Massey Ferguson  #36 diskers were some of the most popular seeding implements here in the 1960s and later. A once over seeding and tillage operation. Harrowing was necessary afterward to smooth out and pack the soil. From a 1968 Country Guide magazine.

Wow, looks like there might be a little side draft with that Massey double disker setup?

I never used more than one at a time but I don't think side draft was an issue with diskers. Important to run with the tractor drawbar hitch in wide swing position, not pinned.

Maybe the angled wheels on the second drill were to help it run straight?  Interesting to see for a guy from row-crop country.

Yes, both front and rear furrow wheels on the diskers are always leaned way over to the right when working to help keep them in the furrow. On hard ground or heavy weed growth sometimes they won't hold and will try to run out to the left, missing and not cutting off weeds.

You can see the angle on the rear furrow wheel on this 1953 ad for the Massey Harris 26 one way disker. Also notice the heavy cast weights bolted into the wheel.
