686 tranny

I finally used the 686 last night to harrow dads garden. Only issue it had was it popped out of 3rd gear on me twice. So I run it in 4th gear then set the harrow deeper and dropped back to 3rd and it did not pop out again.  Any suggestions? Only thing I thought of right away was adjusting the shifting linkage?

On the bright the seals I replaced with silicone did not leak! :D It may be a garden of a half acre but I was using the 12' harrow as a chisel plow and got the 686 warmed up pretty good especially in 4th gear!

Really the only thing you can do externally is to make sure it is completely and freely dropping into the detent poppet for that gear and has a good solid detent. You can get at the detent springs and balls from the top of the transmission cover if need be.

Thanks. I did not know they had detents?

I run the 686 spreading manure over the weekend again and it popped out. It does feel like the detent springs and ball are not getting a solid latch. So when I get a chance I will investigate.
