1486 split

Recommended Posts

My neighbor has a 1486 that has a weak clutch and TA out. This is same tractor that had a block heater fire this spring, we got it fixed back up after a grand plus for used/ new parts. Anyway he had it on the feed wagon and is turning cows on grass and will be putting it on a haybine soon. My question is, can the tractor be split to the rear of the center housing, slid forward and then split from the engine at the clutch? I have never worked on an 86 yet. I have helped dad replace a TA or 2 in 656s and I think we split them that way but its been probably 10 yrs or more so can't exactly remember. If that won't work, what is the best way to do it? Any other tips or suggestions? Thanks, Rob.
