F-14 has more power. F-14 has an angled steering shaft.

This tractor is almost identical to the F12. The only difference one can see right off is the decal and the steering shaft angle. The main difference though was a more powerful engine which was big enough to handle two plows instead of one.

description of it.

Only 25 models of the Farmall F-12 were produced in 1932 by The International Harvester Co. After this initial sample production the numbers rose to a total of 123,407 pieces. Production ended in 1938 when the more powerful F -14 was introduced. Like all Farmall tractors this little one could turn on a dime. It had an adjustable rear tread, could pull a two-bottom plow, was easy to handle and ideal for light farm chores. It was one of the most economical tractors ever made. On an average load it only used 2 quarts of gasoline per hour.

The F-14 also has a crankcase breather attached to the right side valve cover. That's one thing that you can see easily. The seat was also raised because of the steering shaft being raised.

There were also F-12/F-14 conversion kits available. I believe some may have been converted by the dealerships and farmers could also buy the conversion kits and do it themselves. If this were the case all you can do is to check the serial tag.

My next project is a late '37 F-12 with a F-14 conversion. My grandfather is the second owner and the man he bought it from did the conversion.

The F-12 engine was governed to 1400 rpm whereas the F-14 that was raised to 1650 rpm. hence the increase in horsepower. The input bevel gears to the gearbox was changed so that the belt pulley and tractor ground speed were unchanged. The steering wheel was raised to a more comfortable angle so the driver could operate standing up and the seat was raised to match. The brake levers were made longer so that they could be reached from the raised seat. the engine breather was fitted to the valve cover instead of being a pipe down the front of the engine. The oil pump intake filter was changed to a floating type. For those on rubber tyres, some of the rear wheels were cast centers with detachable 40" rims rather than the French & Hect round spoked 36" wheels. On steel the wheels were unchanged.
