H distilate manifold Pictures?

Alright, I can see by my searches that this subject has been pretty well beat to death. What I couldn't find was any technical drawings, pictures or any verbal discription of what the interior of the manifold looks like. I have an H that I will be putting back to origianal, including the shutters, manifold and the like. My manifold is in so so shape, it's not rusted out but the baffle is gone. I'm pretty shure that with some good pictures and some rough measuremts I can reproduce the heat shield and the baffle mechanism I just need to know what it looked like. I seperated the stub pipe off last night and dumped the rust and oil out and I think with some work I coudl have a good manifold. So if anyone has some good pics or drawings please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Here is a heat shield for a distilate manifold for and H that is on ebay right now. Better snatch it up.

Manifold heat shield for Farmall H

As far as the baffle goes. If its gone I wouldn't worry about it. IF you run the tractor very much the babble will retain a lot of heat in the manifold and any more just running on gasoline you don't need the extra heat.

Also on ebay right now are 2 shutters if you need one.

Thanks,

I have a set of shutters, well actually two sets but whos counting right(bought the wrong set the first time). The reason I want to know what the inside of the manifold looks like is so as to better evalutate if the one I have is worth doing what I want to do. If the one I have is in reasonable condition I would like to have it ceramic coated for longevity, one because I'm a little nutty and the other is just because I want it to last as long as possible.

I would not worry about having or making that little flapper, it is not need if you are going to run your tractor on gasoline. I have a distilate manifold on my 1942 H. When I got the H the flapper was rusted solid, so I took a hammer and punch and busted it into little pieces (it must be cast iron).

if your not gonna run kerosene, dont even worry about the flapper!! if the outside of your manifold looks good, have it blasted and coated then slap the heat shroud on. you'll be far far ahead time wise :)

I know what you are up to. I too tried to get one apart and ended up ruining it.

The only way possible to get in in pieces is to soak it in a regular hot tank. But, our government has pretty well outlawed them. You can make one out of a camp stove and an old pail with a lye/water mixture brought to a boil for quite a few hours. Use a bit of safety here because the lye water will eat things, like your skin and blind you if gets into the eyes. After the hot tank process, it will be ready for ceramic coating, etc. as this leaves only the bare metal if you leave it in long enough.

The flipper hangs off a shaft and is controled by the lever on the side of the manifold. You loosen the bolt, move the lever to hot or cold and lock it with the bolt. The flipper directs heat either out the exhaust manifold, for gas, or against the intake to help vaporize the distillate. I have seen this flipper and it is hard to describe. I know of no drawings of the manifold. The parts book, I don't believe, even shows the distillate manifold as it was dicontinued years ago. Post pictures if you get one in pieces without ruining it.

I too wanted to get mine perfect and working as it should. I failed and ruined the manifold. Good luck with the project and let us know how you are doing.

That H heat shield went for $256.

I took a solid M heat shield to an old engine meet on Sunday and was asked several times why my sticker price of $100 was so high. Glad it didn't sell. You will be able to see it on eBay in a couple of days.
