Absent Minded Farmer
Glad this post resurfaced. Was thinking about you guys when I was at the Richfield, Wi. thresheree a couple weeks ago. Didn't get as many photos as usual. Was a bit busy as I volunteer at that show & it was a rather eventful event this year. Both Deere threshers were having issues. One kept getting bundles wrapped around the retarder before the cylinder & the other was cranking along just fine until it spat out a 6" length of sieve from one of the walkers. It was a great day to sell McCormick threshers!!! :v) Also had a couple plies that started to peel off of a wind stacker belt on the Avery. That made for some exciting moments! Did you know the plies from a half stripped belt crack like a whip when it's running at rated speed? I could feel it in my chest at 15' away! There's a reason why there need to be many eyes on the equipment & people at a show. Also.... there are a few videos that will get assembled & posted to my Ewetube page as soon as ye olde laptop is resuscitated this fall. Enjoy! augercreek
I had one of those Diamond T 1 ton pickups. I was going to restore it but all the wood in the cab was rotten and beyond my capabilities. It was a rare one as it was a 1942 model with no chrome!
Roger Byrne
As to the photo acem posted above, that is a 1913 Munktell tractor which is the grandfather of todays Volvo farm equipment. It used a two cylinder, 2-cycle, semi-diesel engine that ran at 550rpm and was water cooled. It was rated as a 30-40 and ran on various low grade fuels plus water injection. The horsepower varied from 30 on very low grade fuel to 40 on the better stuff like kerosene. The photo below shows an existing example of the tractor. 7

Roger Byrne
I make this posting with great sadness, my good friend and a regular poster on this forum, Anson Sheldon Jr. "Delta Dirt" has died. I received the news from his wife Melinda today. I last spoke to him a few weeks ago and knew he was having a tough time of it. We only talked a short time do to his breathing issues . . . not even long enough to get into one of our enjoyable "Blue Smoke" sessions. We never met in person, but got to know each other first through Gary's forum, then from MANY phone conversions and E-mails. Rest in peace my friend, your "Northerner" buddy will miss you. When it is available, I'll post a link to his obit.

Gearclash
Very sorry to hear of this. Another “library burned down” as my dad once said of the older people dying.

ray54
Much history is lost with Anson's passing. He was still talking of projects he hoped to see completed a few weeks ago. But I am sure the passing of his son a year or so back did not help. May his family find homes for a few more of his pieces before the junk man gets it all.

I knew from the last time I talked to him he was having a tough time breathing. My heart goes out to Melinda for her loss and his Grandson "Baby Bear" as well. I'm posting some memorable photos of Anson. This with Wrangler. Anson dozing Delta Dirt with his 1942 IH TD-14. Anson was proud of his USMC Reserve status. I screwed up over this photo, but we patched things up. Anson always asked me about Farmall Kid or "Colonel Kid." Our son Mike in Afghanistan when he commanded Montana Army National Guardsmen, USMC troops they were embedded with in the Afghan National Army. Anson called me years ago about Moon Pies. I'd never heard of them. Anson loved them. He sent me a bunch of them and told me to send them onto "Colonel Kid" in Afghanistan. I did that. This is one of Mike's Marines enjoying one of Anson's Moon Pies in Afghanistan. This was Mike's US MC Gunny Sergeant. He seemed to be enjoying the Moon Pies too. Gary😢 And Anson was so proud of his dad and uncle Gordon being on this early IHC Farmall Regular on the McCormick-Deering Farmall magazine inside the oval.
Loadstar
Sorry to hear of Anson's passing. Seems just a week or so ago we talked a bit on here about drones. Of course over the years we had a few conversations on here about various things including helping him out a bit with his 2090 Case. I had no idea his health was quite that bad though.
Sledgehammer
This is saddening. I only knew Anson through the forum but felt like he was my neighbor. The man could tell a story and make you feel as if you were there to see it unfold. An internet hero of mine without a doubt. I pray for strength for his family. I’m sure the Good Lord above had a special piece of Delta Dirt set aside up there for our friend. A man I was proud to know (even if it was just through this thread) and call my friend. Rest easy sir! 4

Fred B
I sure am sorry to hear of Anson's passing. I too never met him in person, it just seems like he would be one to sit down and chat with about old time stuff. I always thought I might get up that way and chat with him. Rest in peace, Anson Fred B South Texas
Old Binder Guy
Anson and I had so many bouts with Choo Choo caps versus the "pokey dot" types over the years. I'll post this photo of me in honor of Anson (and even Roger) for now. Anson and Baby Bear are wearing their "engineer's caps." Grandson, Baby Bear and Anson. I think losing his son just about tore Anson's heart out. Anson and Wrangler were almost joined at the hips. We'll really miss Anson's AND Wrangler's wisdom here. I can understand Anson being "taken" by this front lady, Melinda taken in 1961. They had a fine marriage. Not that long ago, when Anson was in the hospital, Melinda was there so they could celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary together. Anson's Dad and uncle Gordon on their IHC Farmall Regulars, the photo that IHC (McCormick-Deering) used on the front cover of their magazine. I don't blame Anson for being proud of this. Anson was always enamored with this Milwaukee Railroad picture showing a plow bringing up gold coins out of Montana Soil, near Moore and Lewistown. He and I felt the crushing of the economy in 1980 and I think I assured him I NEVER plowed up any gold. But he loved ribbing me about gold coins. Anson was a blood relation many "Greats" back to Roger Conant. Roger was a Mayflower Pilgrim. Anson and I discussed how MY Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Myles Standish and Roger Conant didn't get along. That was THEIR problem. It didn't bother Anson and me. Anson was a watermelon grower. He never got to deliver a "truckload" of watermelon to Helena for me. But I can buy them in the store. This is a facsimile of what that could have looked like with him delivering watermelons in an IHC AutoWagon. I just pray that God will comfort Anson's family at this time of sorrow. Rest In Peace, my friend. You will certainly be missed here, Anson. Old Binder Guy, aka: Gary😢😢😢 13
