IH Tractors on Montana Farm

Old Binder Guy

Recommended Posts

Have talked with Wrangler about the Montana trip------he sez that he is "game on" providing that we can go through Blue Rock, Montana and check on the "Red Headed Stranger from Blue Rock, Montana"-----(Willie Nelson).

Years ago------ I asked the Professor where Blue Rock was located and he didn't know.  I have never found it on the maps either.  But I do know where Eddie's Corner, Buttermilk Curve, Guilt Edge and Avon are-------so maybe I can help with navigating.  There is approximately 1,900 miles difference in coordinates for Avon, Ms and Avon, Mt.

Marvin the Goose can ride up top on the camper roof and act as a weather vane.

One thing for sure-------we will be riding in style.  (Tony may want to ditch his ride------so to ride with us)!!!!😎👍.

This short wheel base Loadstar must  belong to the farmer who has a tractor with no seat and no steering wheel.  The tractor was made for the guy who had lost his a$$ and didn't know which way to turn!!!!!🤐

Anson, You and I both know this feeling. 1980 will never leave my head as long as I live. 19-1/2% variable interest rates, Russian Wheat Embargo, Longshoreman's Union Strike.

lnteresting pic. Not sure if the feller outside the truck is a lawman or not but looks like he has a pistol on his hip. Maybe he's looking for hobo's in the boxcar...

Don't know about other parts of the country but here in west Texas there is bunches of old boxcars scattered around used for storage. l know of maybe 9 or 10 that were buried and used as storm shelters.

The truck looks to be a International?

The man outside the truck "might" be a Texas Ranger???

Resembles a Ranger I met down in the Valley in 1948.  My dad carried the family with him down to line up the Mexican labor for the cotton harvest.  While eating supper one night-----My dad struck up a conversation with this little average looking guy who was a Texas Ranger-------hat, gun, badge and all.  At 5 or 6 yrs old, I wuz highly impressed!!!!

The labor agent he worked through was named Joe Pettis (Brownsville---McAllen area).  Joe brought several hundred hand pickers up to the Delta each year until the mechanical pickers took over.

Used to hear from some of Joe's descendants ocassionally----- but nothing in years.  By chance-----if anyone knows or is a relative of Joe Pettis------Sure would be good to hear from you.

FRA rules say a car cannot be interchanged with another RR after 40 years of use.  Rebuilding can extend this to 50 years.  It can continue to be used on its home RR as long as they want.  Many cars seem to survive for the 40 or 50 years before being scrapped.

Hello Gary, hope all is well. How’s is the crop at Mikes this year?  Are you planning to thresh?  I’m leaving Saturday for Missouri and my daughter’s wedding the following weekend. Have lots to do in preparation.

I wanted to add a little Montana farm IH red, I repainted my A last week for the local county fair.

Turned out pretty good for my first time painting. 2663AA8C-8492-4E53-B2F4-A327C2BE2008.thumb.jpeg.081d7c64dd2b629836827702f7165940.jpeg

We had six Farmalls in the parade and we took first place. Pretty fun to do after the hard work of cleaning the A up and repainting!

Wrangler was not my first horse.

This 1984 Bronco makes that claim----------ran it and ran it and ran it some more.  Over 300,000 miles when I did some swapping with a guy in south Mississippi for a little D2 Caterpillar and some scrap steel.  Worked out good for both of us---------but I really lost a friend in the deal.

10 miles per gallon up hill or down hill-----switch on or switch off;  but she would get on down the road-------had the 351 high output engine.  Reckon in all practicality-------my current 4 door F150 might be more serviceable for my type work-----------but I really enjoyed the Bronco.

This old horse even made a lap with me at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1987 or so.  Was in Indianapolis seeing a land prospect for a couple of days--------made the bus tour, etc. but before I left I just had to make one lap-----------even stopped and kissed the bricks (at the start/finish line).

Never have been to an Indy race---------but kept up with it on an active basis from the time I was 8--10 yrs old.  Used to listen to it on the car radio while parked under a shade tree in the yard-----remember running the battery down once.  (Daddy wasn't too happy)   Don't watch it  much anymore-------just too fast and out of touch with reality for an old dizzy headed codger nowadays.

First picture I have been able to post from the new laptop------here goes.

Anson, glad you got it working. Hopefully you'll get it mastered pretty soon and get back in the swing of things.

Red Power admin are as vocal with me as Mark Zuckerberg is on Facebook. I still can't leave a like for anyone. itis instantaneous. takes me about two minutes to get here online. Facebook is instantaneous. I'm going to attempt posting some photos to see how that goes. If Red Power is going to remain this bad I might have to pull the plug?

MT Matt, We're not threshing this year. Montana is into the stage two fire restrictions. You can't even shoot a gun now! The barley crop is toast. Mike ran that single sprinkler all summer. It still droughted out. The elk, the grasshoppers, the blackbirds and the starlings have really damaged it. And if you were going to combine the short stuff, you probably could. But there isn't enough stalk to bind it. I knew you'd be going to your daughter's wedding. I hope all goes well for you there. And the paint job on that Farmall A looks spectacular! Take that from an old automobile painter from Billings Chrysler-Plymouth-Toyota! It's beautiful.

Anson, That looks like quit a horse you had before Wrangler. I've posted this photo many times, but it's due here again. The Dover ladies headed to a prayer meeting with their 1926 Ford Mustang.

WELL.... Most of the photos I tried to post uploaded! Praise The Lord!

We WERE talking about motorhomes. Here is another fine example. Nine people were living in this one.

I've posted this photo of an early IHC tractor on Main Street of Polson, Montana before too. Roger will know if it is a Type B or Type C?

The Firestone tire dealer must have been trying to talk this farmer into having his 22-36 McCormick-Deering converted to rubber tires? I love that Model A Roadster Pickup with the tires.

I like this photo of this 8-16 Avery gas tractor being hauled on this Nash Quad truck.

This Allis Chalmers 4X4 is one I'm not familiar with. I never saw one in person.

I love this photograph. A Victorian mansion, a man, woman and child, dressed for the occasion, AND... look at that ca. 1905 REO automobile!

I just liked this photo of these kids eating watermelon at a "filling station." That car at left looks a little bit sporty for that age too. And a modern electrically powered gasoline pump too!

Somewhere in the past-----I saw where J Wayne was being recruited for Gunsmoke and he recommended James Arness.

Where is (or was) the Rice Hotel----Corpus or Houston????

Thinking back to my 1948 trip to the Rio Grande Valley.  (I am thinking Corpus??)

My dad had bought a new Buick for the trip------ran over something in the road and knocked a hole in the oil pan.  We laid up at the Rice Hotel for several days while having the engine replaced.

Definitely remember the Rice Hotel------but also remember being in Corpus Christie also.

What might have been the big hotel in Corpus at that time??

I am thinking we had the engine swapped out in the Buick in Corpus Christie.  I was only 5+ yrs old-----many moons ago.

Anson the Louise Hotel in downtown CC is the only one I can rember. can't remember the Buick place,  my dad was a chrysler auto guy, til we boys talked him into GM, he bought a new 57 olds. no offense , but we thought the buicks of the early 50s were ugly, but i did think their starterrater was a good idea.🙂😬🙃

"starterrator"???

You will have to fill me in on that terminology Fred.

Louise Hotel doesn't ring a bell------ was nothing but a kid at the time.  Doing good to remember what I do.

Gotta remember that back in those days------everything was hotels.  Those new fangled "tourist courts" (aka: motels) were just around the corner yet!!!!.
