756puller Posted Sunday at 01:29 AM Posted Sunday at 01:29 AM My dad has a 966 he lost high and low range in. It still has reverse. My bet on what is wrong is the shaft that the high low shifter rides on. Memory serves I think don't you remove the 3rd link cover to remove/install shaft by reaching clear across the rear housing? HydroTek Posted Sunday at 02:44 AM Posted Sunday at 02:44 AM Yup , remove the small cover below the steering column and see if the linkages are moving 1 Quote
756puller Posted Sunday at 03:17 AM Author Posted Sunday at 03:17 AM My brother already checked where the linkages hooked up and they were moving. 1 Quote
Matt Kirsch Posted Sunday at 12:02 PM Posted Sunday at 12:02 PM I believe you need to pull up the deck and remove the range cover. Honestly I suspect the roll pin that holds the shift arm to the high-low fork shaft sheared off. The cover will still have to come off because the shaft no doubt dropped down into the range housing. 1 Quote
756puller Posted Sunday at 12:38 PM Author Posted Sunday at 12:38 PM Yes I know either way the range cover has to come off I was just trying to jar my memory if the shift for shaft was able to be pulled out from the back. 1 Quote
snoshoe Posted Sunday at 02:17 PM Posted Sunday at 02:17 PM Yes it comes out the back. If that is your problem it probably is the single E clip style. Upgrade to double wire C clips. Check fit before installing. May have to grind fork to fit between clips. Chamfer holes so it forces ring into groove. Quote
