WisIHCFarmer Posted Saturday at 02:50 PM Posted Saturday at 02:50 PM Id like to hear from anyone who has a draper on a 2366, what did you need to make it work? Pics are a plus. Quote
Dirt_Floor_Poor Posted Saturday at 03:08 PM Posted Saturday at 03:08 PM A MacDon and the correct adapter would be the main thing. I’m not sure of the lift capacity of a 2366, that may be a concern as well. Headsight could probably provide any electrical things necessary. Quote
buckeyefarmer89 Posted Saturday at 03:18 PM Posted Saturday at 03:18 PM If you don’t have a third feederhouse lift cylinder you’re going to need to add one. As well as weight on the rear end. The Macon drawers are HEAVY. And as mentioned above finding the correct adapter can be a challenge Quote
acem Posted Saturday at 06:20 PM Posted Saturday at 06:20 PM Which header are you wanting to use? I have a 25ft MacDon 972 on a 1480. Not exactly what you're looking for. But It needs the third cylinder to lift it. It's light on the rear. I have a mud hog but no weights. Your 2166 should use the same adapter as the 80/88 machines except it may take more filler plates and a different front to back belt? I have the books for the 972 if you need any information. It lists the equipment used on the 40/60/66 combines. I think my 1460 would lift it with a third cylinder but it would be very light on the rear even though I have a mud hog on it too. I have used a 30ft 1020 on my 1460. A 21ft MacDon would be a little lighter. Quote
WisIHCFarmer Posted Saturday at 07:49 PM Author Posted Saturday at 07:49 PM It would be a 974/2062. No current plans for it, its an eventually project, If I found the right one type of deal. Just researching it. Quote
SDman Posted Sunday at 01:52 PM Posted Sunday at 01:52 PM Years ago I had a guy with a later 1660 that had a 30' MacDon header on it....that was a 960/962 header so it was built for small grains and designed to be operated off of the ground. He ran that combo for several years. I currently have a guy running a 972 (same as CaseIH 1052) on a 2366. He's had this setup for 3-4 years now. Its only a 25' model....he doesn't have either rear weights or a 3rd cylinder. Its not a flex-draper, but its for operating on the ground. In my part of the world, I don't really think you would need a flex-draper for a header under 30'. On a 2062, you would want the narrowest center canvas MacDon offered for those heads. IIRC, they offered center drapers with 38", 44", and 52" widths. A 2388 used a 44" width, 66s needed a 38" width. Like has been mentioned, you would need a 3rd cylinder and probably a set of rear weights if you don't have a MudHog RWD axle. You will also need a switch in the cab to toggle from reel fore/aft to header fore/aft....the combine's reel fore and aft operates both circuits; there is a solenoid-operated valve block on the header that toggles between the features. 1 Quote
acem Posted Sunday at 02:24 PM Posted Sunday at 02:24 PM I know where plenty of those adapters are for putting MacDon drapers on IH /CIH combines. Unfortunately my friend passed away and everything is closed down and locked up... Probably get one from Eldridge Supply in Augusta Arkansas. They are an old IH/CaseIH dealer with a salvage yard. Very knowledgeable. Quote
Torque Posted Sunday at 11:24 PM Posted Sunday at 11:24 PM I ran a 30' 2062 on a 2144, had third cyl and 10 weights with mud hog. Need a switch for the tilt and a pump support. I hated that head, beans here can be 5' tall and when cut hit the backbone of the head and do not drop onto the belts so both sides can fill with beans with the belts zipping along under them. Then when they finally go it plugs the auger at the back of the head, never did plug the feeder house. Quote

jass1660 Posted Monday at 12:38 AM Posted Monday at 12:38 AM Drapers aren’t always the answer. 1 Quote

It seems to me like it would be the way to go if wanting to move up to a 30' head. Currently running a 25' 1020 with an air reel and absolutely love it. But i like to think and throw ideas around so that if the opportunity presents itself I have an idea what I want. Quote
SDman Posted Monday at 02:28 AM Posted Monday at 02:28 AM They offer pea augers for draper heads for dealing with tall, bushy crops. Many in Canada have them for canola, peas, mustard, etc. 1 Quote

So is trying to make an auger header wider than 35' work as well....that's why no OEM makes one wider than 35' to my knowledge. And you still can't get them to feed after the sun goes down. 1 Quote

Actually if you want to talk about a heavy header, do what all the guys around here have done in the last 2-3 years and put an air reel on the front end of a draper head. All that extra weight on the front end of the header really taxes most newer combines' lift capacity. This is for our common problem...short beans. 1 Quote
