Rick G. Posted Friday at 04:30 AM Posted Friday at 04:30 AM Anyone else seen one out on the roads lately? I was out driving earlier Thursday and saw one out motating down the road. Looked respectable in external condition. I’d all but forgotten about those Cavaliers. lol! I can’t imagine there’s anything collectable about them. …..ah well just an observation. Quote
lotsaIHCs Posted Friday at 06:23 AM Posted Friday at 06:23 AM I see an occasional Cavalier on the road. I had a friend who had an 84 or 85 Type 10 hatchback coupe that he bought new when we were in high school. He was a very practical person who went on the be a doctor. I worked with a guy who had a later 80s Z24 with the 2.8 V6. It was actually a pretty nice, sporty little car. Not fast to speak of, but handled nice and was somewhat fun to drive. I owned an 85 (if I remember right) 2 door 4 cylinder 5 speed that was a good car. It had somewhere around 200k miles on it when I sold it. With the manual transmission it was a fun little car. Quote
iowaboy1965 Posted Friday at 09:34 AM Posted Friday at 09:34 AM I haven't noticed any on the road lately. When we got married my wife had a black z24? That she bought new. V6 automatic. It was a nice little car. We traded it off on a new 91 thunder bird sport. When we had our first child we traded that on a 95 intrepid. Wife never cared for the thunderbird as it didn't get around in the winter real well with out studded snows and some weight in the trunk. I have wondered a few times what ever happened to her cavalier. Quote
vtfireman85 Posted Friday at 10:28 AM Posted Friday at 10:28 AM My parents bought an 85 or 86 wagon drove it for years, they both really liked it. I haven’t seen a cavalier lately, but there’s a Tempo running around here, and an early Taurus and an 80’s Accord. Saw a young girl driving along looking nervous in a pristine Contour the other day, like it was 2003. Quote
5488ih Posted Friday at 10:42 AM Posted Friday at 10:42 AM I’ve had 3 Cavaliers’, 90, 98 & 02 along with 2 of the Pontiac Sunfires, 00 & 03. Pretty simple & reliable. Good gas mileage. They saved me in a couple accidents. Quote
jeeper61 Posted Friday at 10:43 AM Posted Friday at 10:43 AM You don't see many 20 plus year old cars on the road around here of any brand they all turned to a pile of rust if they were driven year round. Quote

There isn't much collectable about any low end car Maybe some of the High Performance modules like Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ford Focus ST and Subaru WRX they were AWD The Honda Civic Type R, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Chevy Cobalt SS where all just FWD not as desirable IMO Quote
Alan Dinan Posted Friday at 12:32 PM Posted Friday at 12:32 PM I’m still driving an 05 Cavalier for a work car. Have another 05, had a transmission put in it and some other stuff done to it. Mine has 286,000 miles on it with the 2.2 , 5 speed manual. The other one is a twin but only 125,000 miles. Hopefully get another 10 years out of the “new” one!! 2 Quote
Alan Dinan Posted Friday at 12:43 PM Posted Friday at 12:43 PM Mine is in rough shape though, as 6 deer have bounced off of it! Also the rust is the reason this one has to be parked. It’s a shame GM quit making the 2.2. We bought it new, and my wife could get 38 mpg out of it. I have a heavier foot, but it still gets about 32 mpg. 3 Quote
IHandJDman Posted Friday at 12:49 PM Posted Friday at 12:49 PM There's 3 of the boxy late 80s early 90s around here. 1 is a Z24, 1 convertible and another a 4 door. Quote

J code body style. I had a friend who worked at Buick back then and he told me J stood for Junk not long after I had purchased an 84 Skyhawk SCS Turbo (more or less a Baby Grand National) from him. 1 Quote
forwhldrv Posted Friday at 07:32 PM Posted Friday at 07:32 PM How about a Chevy chevette there one I see around this area now and then I saw a Chevy citation a few weeks ago. There’s a Plymouth voyager mini van that’s around the town I work in that looks like it was a custom conversion into like a pickup it’s even a 5 speed manual. I’m sure the guy that owns it is sporting a mullet or skullet 2 Quote

Paint is faded but it doesn’t seem to have much rust on it 3 Quote
naedlaen Posted Saturday at 01:25 AM Posted Saturday at 01:25 AM Not a Cavalier, but I saw a 1974 (ish) Olds Cutlass Salon (4 door in Decorah Iowa today. A little rust on the rear fenders, so I think it has been years since it was driven in the winter (if it was ever driven much in the winter). So as to not totally hijack the thread, my uncle had one of the first years Cavaliers. My first exposure to front wheel drive. Have not seen one in years. Neal Quote

Cattech Posted Saturday at 03:22 AM Posted Saturday at 03:22 AM My dad had an '87 4 door I piled into the back of a stopped RWD Cutlass at 60 mph. My head hit the plastic trim above the windshield so hard that the windshield was cracked up to that area. Yes I deformed the roof line with my head - then I got out and started cleaning up the incident. The first officer on the scene didn't believe I was the driver until the knot on my forehead started to bloom. About 15 years ago, I had a 1993 Cavalier RS 2 door like the one below. (this is just an internet pic of one similar) 3.1 v6 - I know it wasn't a fast car, but it was no slouch either. I always wondered how hard it would have been to drop a supercharged 3800 in it, but mine wasn't the car to do it to - it got so rusty that when I plopped my rear in one day the seat dropped 2". I decided that I had driven the car enough at that point. Quote
brahamfireman Posted Saturday at 11:43 AM Posted Saturday at 11:43 AM Back around 01/02 my GF at the time had a couple her dad bought her new. red manual she rolled, then a white auto. Boy those things didn't have much room in the back!!!!! Quote
Chester5732 Posted Saturday at 11:51 AM Posted Saturday at 11:51 AM My family had several over the years. It’s been a long time since I have seen one. Quote

I see the engine for it on a stand in my shop. It was a project started by one of my kids a few years ago and hasn't gone any further. 1 Quote
acem Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM Lots of old vehicles still on the road here. I see 80s pickups on the road daily. 1 Quote

For cheep cars tgey have serviced me well. Still liked the Cavalier the best 1 Quote
yellowrosefarm Posted Monday at 04:57 PM Posted Monday at 04:57 PM The first Cavalier I ever sat in belonged to my neighbor, who was an Arborist. He paid $300 for it because it had been hit in the rear quarter, and used it as a daily driver for about 10 years. Carpet was soaked with bar oil and sawdust, seats ripped, climbing gear in the back, etc. I never knew of it breaking down on him the whole time he had it. Quote
