Dieterbilt Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Hey folks, I just bought a hough 100C payloader and got it home. When I bought it, I could hear the engine had a knock. A had hoped it was something in the top end of the engine, but the more I've checked it out - I believe it possibly has spun a bearing. Anyone know of any running D817's out there for sale? This one is not intercooled but does have a bosh pump. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote
Binderdan Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I do not know of any used 817s for sale specifically. FP Smith would be worth a call. These engines were used in TD-25C, TD-25E dozers, H100C, and 560 PayLoaders, D120C wheel dozer, 330 and 340 PayHaulers, maybe something else too. Is it a light enough knock you might be able to save the one you have? The crankshafts are hard and fairly resilient if caught in time. If you would be interested in trying to save yours I can possibly help you locate parts. But for starters your H100C could have an 817B or an 817C engine, so I would need to know which you have. I have all the books for either. Engine serial number and I believe model too is stamped on the rear RH side of the engine crankcase just below the exhaust manifold. 1 Quote
MeanGene1 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I haven't been over to Piggy Smith's for a while (about 10 miles) but the website says they have some 817 parts and a complete 560B loader https://www.fpsmithparts.com/ Quote
supermechanic Posted September 30 Posted September 30 30 years back, the construction outfit I worked for had a big Hough with a 270 cummins in it. I believe it was a repower. (The exhaust through-hood had been relocated.) I ran the unit on occasion; it worked very well. Was replaced by a Cat 988. Quote
Dieterbilt Posted Saturday at 04:14 AM Author Posted Saturday at 04:14 AM Thanks everyone for the info. I got a random leed on a 817 in a scrap yard. I called and was able to pick it up, but its a core. Hopefully I can get some time to open both up and figure out what I have. Quote
pede Posted Saturday at 11:28 AM Posted Saturday at 11:28 AM If you can find overhaul parts, the crank can be welded and turned. Quote
