MT Matt Posted June 16 Posted June 16 After dragging the New Holland swather home, going through it and giving it a test run, it was time to get it to the field. The tow hitch and the dolly cart were done so now I had to load up and move it 10 miles away. Getting the swather up on the dolly wheels definitely is not a one man job. There isn’t much room for error to get the wheels in the buckets. But everything fit. Just folded the ramps up and strapped it all down. Signs, flags and away we went! A friend was my pilot car and he blocked traffic on a bridge going into town. I think the dolly is 13.5’ wide so I took the whole bridge up. I didn’t set any speed records at 15 mph but we made it. The route was the back road which is gravel part of the way and pretty steep in a couple of areas. Everything worked as planned and the setup pulled well. To unload, we left the tow bar attached to the truck and used it along with the swather to back out of the buckets. Once on top of the ramps, we unhooked from the truck and backed down the ramps. Again, not a one man job to stay straight on the ramps. Safely on the ground and cutting hay. The swather is a huge improvement for speed and comfort. I can say I was very lucky to find a machine that was basically field ready. 28 Quote
nepoweshiekfarmalls Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Just curious, what is the top speed of one of these swathers? Quote
Gearclash Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I didn't realize that is how your cart worked. My brother has had 2 different swather carts. First one was a cradle for the swather drive tires like yours but instead of being a dolly it was a trailer with a frame and hitch. I am thinking that would be easier to load and unload than yours as the tow vehicle holds the trailer in place. Then he found a full blown swather trailer that gets all 4 wheels on the trailer and is a gooseneck. Quote
sandhiller Posted June 16 Posted June 16 That's awesome Matt Puts a smile on yer face when your new to you machine has a successful maiden voyage! 1 1 Quote

I have about $300 in the dolly setup and it will get used for about three moves a year. After unloading from that trailer, I’d rather be closer to ground! Lol 1 Quote
Dirt_Floor_Poor Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Our New Holland “Speedrower” will go over 20 mph, but is completely uncontrollable at that speed. Quote

mader656 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Is it easier to road in reverse lots of backed swathers round here. 1 Quote
TroyDairy Posted June 17 Posted June 17 My MF 9770 goes 21 on road. Not bad but you have to be awake Look good! 1 1 Quote
TroyDairy Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Hey, is there no 'disconnect' for the hubs? Mine have that for towing (not highway just emergency) the unit. Disconnect and skip the cart? Also you'll get more betterer and start going a little faster. No point for all the hassle if not saving time too. What is that ol gal? 12' head, gas? Quote

You mean Macdon swathers that you can turn the seat around like a Bi-directional and drive backwards. We had a few. They do go backwards faster and easier then forward down the road. That feature wasn’t enough to keep us buying Macdon though Quote

Lars (midessa) Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Is this true swather, just cuts and lays it down? Or more like a haybine, I think is see crimper rolls? Quote

The hydro motors drive a big chain in the side boxes. Chains could come off but that’s more hassle than loading it. Yes, a massive 12’ cut! 😂 At least for me that’s a big step up. Has a Perkins diesel in it too. Basically has every upgrade they could put on a 1495. Has the 1496 header which was the same as the twin sickle 1499. 1 Quote
