Pull along drag disc sizing

Hi I'm sure this has been talked about somewhere as well as I know there's no classified listings on the forums. So I'm throwing this out there.

I am in need of a pull along drag disc. I plan to pull it with my C not a super C. I can find 8 foot ones and 4 foot but very few 6 to 7 foot ones. 

I have read 8 foot is to big in tilled ground for a C to pull but I don't know how true that is. If it's not true then great. 

Also if anyone who might have a disc of proper size in working condition who might want to sell it let me know. 

I had posted before about looking for a proper tractor well of course life gets in the way so I just can't afford to so I'm going to work with what I have now. But I have a great idea which one I want to get now because of all of you and realize I don't need a big tractor despite the coolness. Thank you everyone. 

Farmall c with a left right plow. Full mounted cultivator set. Then if I can get a finish disc to smooth. 

I guess I'll make my own bed shaper I know these tractors had them I seen a great video of a guy showing how they work. If I could find them perfect then. 

I almost wish for my needs find a wide front super c put the 3 point hitch on the back for the few tasks I need a 3 point for. Or a super A.

So, are you talking about a wheel disk or one of the old adjustable pull behind disks like this picture?

Good luck on finding one like the one above.  Dad had one like that, only green for the 1952 John Deere B.  Most of them are long gone unless you find one in a fence row somewhere.  Virtually everything theses days that small is 3 point.  I have a Frontier Model 1166 for my John Deere 790 compact that is 5 foot 6 inches wide.  Best bet is probably go to auctions.

Here's a thought too add a 3 point to the Farmall c and just find a 6 foot disc then I could use my PTO spin spreader too but is 600 pounds to heavy for them

Find an old on land off set. Adjustable, shallow to deep.

I have one like the one in the picture, pull the rope to change the angle. Mine is an IH. I dont know the width, might be 8 ft

 Nothing requiring you to fill the spreader all the way up. It will sling seed just as far half full as it does full.

I have two of those both 8ft IHs that were pulled together by a hitch back in the day.  You have to get off the tractor to pull a pin and then repin it wherever you want the angle. Pulled one disk with our 240 as a kid playing around.

There was an old disk at an estate auction I went to today that probably would have worked for you. No hydraulic thought.

Does your C have hydraulics of any kind?

Had one like the one in the picture that was grandpa’s. We used it for the garden for years, but while the sister had been living there, it disappeared.

 I use it to spread pellet fertilizer mostly 

Planted Field corn just mix fertilizer in layers with some seed then disc (borrowed one) sun flowers I did too

In my area of WI those disc's pop up every so often.

I'm looking for an 8ft wheeled for my m but they're either rotting away in a fence line, or super crazy asking price.

King kutter makes a 4ft disc for utv's . It has a hand crank, but you could easily put a ram or electric actuator on it. Unfortunately they're 2k though......

I had a 2 ft one before I had my tractors. I loved it. They do need additional weight. Most guys ratchet strap cinderblocks to them but I wanted something nicer so I made a bracket for tractor weights.

It worked really well for the wifes garden and my food plots but it did really create a hard pan. I regret selling it. You can find them for 400 to 800 on marketplace or Craigslist 

I enjoy playing farmer and getting my stuff out but after going through a field 3 or 4 times it was just easier and faster for me to use my compact tractor and tiller.

That's kind of expensive, but would open up a new world of attachments.   It says it's CAT1 capable, so 600lbs should be no problem.  However you may have to add some weight to the front of the tractor.  My 790 has no problems picking up anything that's CAT1.  However, it also has a loader which adds a lot of weight to the front end.  But 3 point can allow you to buy newer plows,

disks,

cultivators,

and using tool bars to mount planters, etc.

What's your budget and what's the availability of pull behind versus 3 point attachments.  Down here most of the old stuff has gone to the scrap yard.

My C has a full front and rear cultivator setup and a left and right 1 bottom plow just a bear to change out everything. I just took off all the cultivator parts to put the plow.on for spring. I've done some nice work with out a disc. I know the seem to make hard pan which I try to prevent we have red dirt. My Kubota l45 tlb is a great tractor but not a field tractor big heavy rough ride (short tires) I found a nice 7 foot drag pull string disc on Facebook but I can't seem to find a contact. 

 

The 3 point is expensive for the c but does let this become a one tractor do all. 

There's a 400 wide front gas for sale near me 2500 but tractors without attachments are not useful

I have a 2nd set of front cultivator mounts I was thinking I'd leave on just for front weight plus I have front wheel weights as well.
