Drove 3-1/2 hours to pick up son’s 656 Hydro project.  New seat on Christmas Day to break the news.  Definitely excited.  Interesting that the hydraulic filter is different from our other tractors.

Excellent project tractor!

I used to say if I ever retired I would keep my SM loader tractor

Now it's my 656 hydro loader tractor that I will not sell

I like that smile in the first picture.

Interesting how times change, referring to the dual hub on the axle. My 3010 and 4010 JDs both came with clamp-on dual eyes, and I have had duals on both. Today, "modern" farmers might laugh at us for thinking that we had a big enough tractor to need duals. Sure helped with flotation.

Looks nice.  I wish I had that front axle on mine.  I've asked my Dad to pick up a hydraulic filter for mine before and he has come home from the dealership with the wrong one, the style used on a 560.  I assume this was only different on the hydros?

Awesome. I sure miss mine when putting round bales in feeders vs the 706.

Awesome picture. He'll be in heaven. Looks straight and solid too.

Had a gas 656 hydro narrow front that I traded loads of firewood for not running. Put work into the engine and the rest was solid. Was a damn great square bailing tractor. Loved it in that role.

Loaned it to a buddy when one of their tractors went down doing hay. Was in a barn during a thunderstorm and the barn was hit by lightning and set the barn on fire and burned everything to a crisp 😭😭😭😭. That one stung. Still haven't replaced it. I really want to find one like I had. But life has gotten in the way.

They will have to pry my 5288 and 1086 from my cold, dead hands. Can't believe I almost sold them for a newer mxu110.

If you need anything miscellaneous for it let me know. My charge pump went to pieces so it's parked. I put the two new pressure hoses on last year. The one from the rh side up to the block under the dash. And the one from the block to the remotes. Maybe 5 hours on them.

Looks like your son and I have similar taste in belt buckles! The second one I haven't used yet but the IH one is on my good belt. That one has "1978" on the back.

I just checked his and it also has 1978 on the back - my dad had it and gave it to him.  Glad you said something the glue holding the IH was coming loose so it got some TLC just now.

Mine came from the belongings of a cousin who passed a few years ago. He undoubtedly got them from his dad, who was my dad's first cousin. I have boxes upon boxes of IH items that nobody else in the family wanted. I just couldn't see it all getting thrown away!
